Guest guest
Hi I just wanted to bounce this off someone here. We were given a prescription for diflucan for my ASD son and used about 14 days worth until he got irritable and broke out in a rash. I decided to do the herbal rotation for antifungal support. In the mean time I couldn't help but think about how diflucan(fluconazole) has flu in its name which usually is means flouride. I looked it up and found yes its a flouride drug. I was told by my DAN doc to not let a dentist use flouride with my son. Is diflucan any safer than giving a child flouride from the dentist etc.. I also read an article from the ARI where a child on the spectrum regressed with anesthesia that was derived from flouride. So I guess my new Doc(DAN!) will probably say I'm worrying about nothing and this drug will help more than it can harm. Any thoughts on this.. Angelique Medicines Many common pharmaceuticals used in medicine are fluorinated. The list of fluorinated drugs number in the hundreds but the more common ones include Celebrix, Cipro, Diflucan, Prozac, Dalmane, Lipitor, and nearly all of the halogenated general anesthetics. Depending on the molecular formula, these drugs contain from 3% to 17% fluorine by weight. Some have been shown to lose free fluoride from defluorination by cytochrome p450 enzymes (ez, et al, 1997 and Pradhan, et al, 1995). Most fluorinated general anesthetics elevate serum Fluoride but some to levels that pose risks to kidney function, at least during the fluoride exposure (Nishiyama and Hanaoka, 1998).
