Guest guest
Dee, thats exactly what my doctor told me when she prescribed both to me. My vv was caused by my Atrophic vaginitis which was caused by the almost compleate depleation of estrogen that occured when I was taking depo for so long. Not long after the estrogen treatment I found that I was no longer getting symptoms of the strep B that I was being treated for before. I've had really good results from my estring and from the estrace cream. Better than any of the other treatments I've been givin. ----Original Message Follows---- Reply-To: VulvarDisorders To: <VulvarDisorders > Subject: estring-estrace Date: Sat, 21 Apr 2001 04:35:05 -0400 ----- Original Message ----- >Thats wierd, I'm using an Estring and also using Estrace cream. I had more trouble with bacterial infections 'before' I used either of those then after. Funny how everyone's body reacts a little differently. < Hi all and That makes sense to me and I can understand why you'd have 'less' bacterial infections after using the Estring and the Estrace. I just read an article that said if we are deficient or low in Estrogen it makes us more susceptible to B. infections because the skin can be very fragile and with cuts or splits or breaks leaving it more susceptible to infections, and the Estrogen can build up that tissue to a healthy state once again, as well as keep the pH levels more where they should be. It also can 'lower' the pH in menopausal women , as typically again with less Estrogen it's higher than what's considered a 'normal' range and can bring it back down. Guest guest
Bravo for you I'm so happy to hear that !! I know in 'my' ten year search, the Estradiol (Estrace) cream was the ONLY thing that ever helped me and was 'my' cure. (although I did add a natural Testosterone cream topically the last 4 months of my six months using the E. to toughen and strengthen things up. I'd tried 98% of everything I'd ever read about and I'm talking diets like the low oxlate, steroid creams like Clobetasol, boric acid, acidolphillis, anti yeast meds, anti yeast diets, acupuncture, blah blah blah.....(I know I've got a list a mile long somewhere in this chaos, *chuckle*) you name it I've tried it. Talk about TIME lost and YEARS of pain !! TEN !!!!!! Most were at 'best' just Band-Aid fixes with minimal relief (to think that 'any' relief was welcome) and some made me a thousand times worse like the Clob. *sigh* I also want to mention that my 'blood serum' levels were fine this whole time, and even above a so called 'normal' range (which was normal for me tho)..... but it wasn't until I applied the cream directly that it worked. And I just KNOW it has something to do with the actual receptors in the vag. area. (and why it's working for you as well). It was a long slow process (6 mos) because I was in horrible shape, but bottom line is that it 'did' work for me. It's been two years now of being Pain free and totally restored. YIPPEE To this day I still have no idea of the 'cause', but at that point I no longer cared 'why', I just wanted fixed. !! Anyway, continued good luck to you !! Hope it's 'your' final answer too. Guest guest
, Did you realize that you had a depleation of estogen from having blood work done? I have had blood test done twice in the last year thinking my VV was hormone realted but my blood work always comes back in the normal range. I suffer from bad internal vaginal dryness and can't help but think my VV is partly hormone related. I to have suffered from alot of bacterial infections in the last couple of years and was being treated for strep B by Dr. . Is estring something you use internally or on the vulva itself? I do use estrace cream but it ac- tually makes me more irritated so I can't use it everyday. Take care, Pam
Guest guest
Estring helped me a lot with my vulvodynia. Just couldn't keep using it as it gave me BV. It is a ring you wear inside the vagina for three months at a time, but it can come out and get rinsed off, and can come out for sex if you wish. Guest guest
Dee, I'm glad to hear the estrace was a cure for you. Me, I still strugle, although now I only have pain with intercourse and on contact. I do think that for many wemon this could be the answer. I wish I had been given the estrace about 7 years ago, maby then I could have had a compleate reversal. My symptoms are much improved from what they once were though. My doctor has told me that she has had many wemon who have responded 90% or better to it. ----Original Message Follows---- Reply-To: VulvarDisorders To: <VulvarDisorders > Subject: Re: estring-estrace Date: Sat, 21 Apr 2001 11:16:43 -0400 Bravo for you I'm so happy to hear that !! Guest guest
My doctor did do a blood test and she also tested my calcium. From what I gathered the blood test was simply to back up what she saw from her physical examination. She told me that she did not go by the blood work alone because the test results may vary. From what I gathered, it was pretty aparent from my physical examination that my vv was caused by atrophic vaginitis. I also had a documented history of using Depo-Provera, which depleats estrogen. I belive the doctors exact words where that I had the vagina of an 80 year old woman. Despite her humor though, my doctor was very compationate and was as gental as possible with the exam. The estring is a vaginal ring that releases estrogen slowly and continuously over 3 months. It is inserted vaginaly and can be left there during sex and exams, although it can also be removed if you have dificulty during sex. If you do experience a vaginal infection they usualy recomend that you take it out during the course of the treatment and wash it every day with anti bacterial soap ( like dial) and let it air dry. My new doctor, Dr. on, says that my strep B was actualy a result of my depleated estrogen leaving me suseptable by altering my ph. Once I started the estrace and the estring the bacterial infections went away. The estrace cream may be leaving you irritated because of the compound it is mixed in. I often found that I had problems with most anti fungle creams and antibiotics in this way myself, although I have found that I have had no problem with estrace or temovate(topical steriod). ----Original Message Follows---- From: RSand66893@... Guest guest
Not everyone can tolerate the estring just as not everyone can tolerate estrace cream. Our vaginas are very sensitive with this condition and some things may irritate some people more than others. I remember my doctor saying that if I had a hard time tolerating the estring or the estrace cream that she had other alternitives. ----Original Message Follows---- Reply-To: VulvarDisorders To: <VulvarDisorders > Subject: Re: estring-estrace Date: Sat, 21 Apr 2001 19:31:27 -0700 Estring helped me a lot with my vulvodynia. Guest guest
Hi all, I tried the Estring and thought it sounded like a good idea. I couldn't stand to have the thing in me. It was too painful. Donna
