Eunice you said: When I go for extended time without eating, my bg's go

low. I have

to eat every 4 to 5 hours, usually more often.

I know you are not on meds and neither am I. I have never experienced a

low. I have only once or twice been barely under a 100. I sometimes go all

day w/o eating.

Do you think the difference is the weight??? I still need to lose about 25

more lbs. Would I then experience lows if I didn't eat. regularly?

There is so much to learn about this disease and so much I still don't

understand.

Thanks

Eunice,

Thanks for the quick reply. I am not on any new medication nor am

I under any stress. You answered my question about not eating over a

extended period of time. My bg also goes low. If it is going high I

might need to keep a closer check on what I am eating.

Hi Carole,

I wish I could answer your question. I don't know the answer. Maybe losing

more weight would help. I can go from dinner until around 11:00 the next

morning before I eat breakfast and I feel okay (I will have a couple cups of

coffee). I'm usually in the high 60's and 70's as I recall. I don't usually

test before a meal, but I will today to see what my bg's are.

Diabetes is a strange creature. We are all different. Some people struggle

to get normal readings while others don't have to. My recommendation is to

do the best you can.

Carole, I have been accused of not taking diabetes seriously. This is not

true. I do take it very seriously, but I don't let it control me. Maybe I'm

not good at explaining, but I love living and I enjoy life so much. I don't

have time to be constantly testing and measuring foods. It might be

different if I did not get good numbers most of the time. When I do get a

high number and I do sometimes, I don't worry about it. I know that in less

than an hour bg's are going to be back to normal.

Just take it one day at a time. Don't let your bg's stress you. Just

because someone has lower numbers than you do, doesn't mean that your bg's

are not okay. What was your last HbA1c results? And, what is your doctor's

opinion? Is she/he satisfied with your results?

Hi Barre,

Write down what you eat and the amount for a week or so and see if you have

changed your eating habits.

Eunice

Type 2 - I will control diabetes; diabetes will not control me.

My count is high in the morning. I am concerned about it, but, like Eunice, I

don't stress over it. I know my count will be down all day and evening. I

test twice a day. I was just tested last week and my HbA1c results was 5.7.

So even with that high early morning count, my number isn't so bad.

Hi Betty,

Nothing wrong with that 5.7. Even some people without diabetes will have a

higher HbA1c than that. You're doing great.

Hi Carole,

Staying below 140 is realistic for most people. You will get there. You did

great, you did exceptional in 3 months. It may take several more months for

your bg's to reach the level you want and stay there. It's not going to

happen overnight. For me, it was gradual. I can remember when I was happy

with a 160. I still get a 160 once in awhile, but not as often.

The internet is a good source of information, these groups are, for the most

part, good source of information. However, I think sometimes we read too

much and we expect too much of our body. Someone will say that their HbA1c

was 5, we want the same numbers. It is not always going to happen. We are

all different. My doctor is satisfied with my numbers. She knows my body,

my health better than anyone else. If she is satisfied, I'm satisfied.

Remember, my HbA1c was 7.4 and two months later my doctor took me off meds.

Diabetes takes patience. You really are doing great. You will lose the

weight you want to lose, you will reach a bg average that you are comfortable

with. Just take one day at a time.

Hugs

Eunice, thanks for your reply. I try and not let my BGs stress me out. I

guess what bothers me the most, is that there isn't a " one size filts all "

to go by. I am trying for very strict control but don't think I am

achieving it.

For example, if I am running around 120 and then eat a very low carb meal

(even salad), it will shoot me up into the 140's or 150's. I don't think

those numbers are good. If I have a few more carbs (and I usually stay

between 20-30 day), I might shoot up into the 170's or 180's. One piece of

fruit took me to 220.

If my sugars were consistently lower, then I would not see those kind of

numbers when I eat, would I. That is what I want. I want to consistently

stay below 140. Is that realistic????

My last A1c was 6.3 down from 9.4 three months previously. My doc says I am

doing great - don't come back for 6 months. Well, I intend to get another

A1c at 3 months.

Thanks Eunice - I guess I am impatient. I want what I want when I want it

and I want my numbers lower!!!!

I'll try and be more patient.
