Guest guest
The internet is public domain...unless you had copyrighted the blog, I dont' think that there is anything that you can do about it. The seniorcareinformation should post your message and/or post that article was yours. That is what they SHOULD do, but I don't know if they even have an obligation to do that. > > Last week in my google alert I saw that a website called seniorhomecareinformation.com had placed an article called The Cruelty of Lewy Body Dementia, Part II on their site, passing it off as their own. However, that was a post, word for word, from MY blog - http://chiachatter.blogspot.com/2010/05/cruelty-of-lewy-body-dementia-part-ii.ht\ ml - that I had written on May 18th. I wrote a comment to the article telling them so, which was never acknowledged. > > Today I got another alert, this time MY WORDS were on a site called zimbio.com - MY article again, with the author being given as seniorhomecareinformation.com! > > I tried to contact zimbio.com, and got dozens - literally - of popup windows that I couldn't close as fast as they were opening. Guest guest
hey sherry,  first put a notation on teh top of your blog 'any copying or reposting requires written permission from the authro. '  that way you have a legal leg to stand on should you need it.  second what site are you blogging on,  can you write them and ask for suggetsoins??/  adn as for the pops p for zimbio.com, i would do somedthing sneaky, go to a librayr and go thru all those pop ups on their puter ntil you get to the site and see if you can then find a contact us area  go from there,  does the place that originally posted it and is getting credit for it, have a snail mail address,  i would then send them a letter that they have to sign for and state that he copied your blog word for word wihtout your permission and without giving you credit for hte information that was used. and that this needs to stop immediately or you will consider pursuing leagal action.  i hope this helps, i am concerned now nad i blog alot. nad ihave psoted my copyright poem too. and that is offically published,  sorry this is hanppening people are so rude, hugs. sharon   I am the daughter of Leonard whom was diagnosed in May 2004 and he died of complicatons *blood pressure started dropping and wouldn't recover* on Sept 25, 2005. Guest guest
Wow, Sharon, excellent suggestions here, thank you! . I've heard from quite a few others on facebook who have also had to deal with the same things. Word theft is apparently running rampant out there . I appreciate your help! Guest guest
Thanks for your reply, Joan. I'm learning that posting something on the internet doesn't make it automatically public domain, or give anyone else the rights to my property, so that's a good thing. There is a LOT of copyrighted information on the internet that others don't have rights to, most of it in fact, just like in a library - most is copyrighted, only some is public domain. I've gotten quite a few good ideas from others to whom this always happened, and what I can do about it. Today I will start working on it... Guest guest
Hi Sherry, I sure am sorry. I have no idea how to stop something like that. I have written a book for my family, and have wondered about it being stolen. Someday, I hope to clean it up some, well edit it, and perhaps get it copy righted so it can be sold. Copy right doesn't stop anyone from stealing either, but it's a legal tool a person can use, if you can afford a lawyer. That leaves me out too. Taking your work no matter how trivial is stealing. That is such a low blow to honest hard working people. Let us know if you find a way to correct the situation. Love you Sherry, Imogene > > Last week in my google alert I saw that a website called seniorhomecareinformation.com had placed an article called The Cruelty of Lewy Body Dementia, Part II on their site, passing it off as their own. Guest guest
There are websites that just pull information of a certain topic out there and connect it to their site... that may be happening in this situation... Sort of similar to the 'community pages' on Facebook that pulls text from people's walls and posts on their page as though it was entered there. Hate those community pages - they also confuse folks w/ the legitimate pages out there on the same topic (i.e. LBDA FB page) Those folks who don't change their privacy settings on Facebook are the ones whose information is pulled from their wall and dropped onto the 'community pages' - I've been trying to message those who 'like' those community pages that they're on the wrong page - but I'm unable to see all of those who have 'liked' the pages... Sherry - I don't have a blog - but THINK there's something you can do so that only a portion of your article is viewed unless they go to your site vs. the entire article pulled... this would prevent the search engines pulling & taking your content (assuming that has happened - and who knows I could be making up stories here... LOL ) but read this: How can I restrict my feeds not to be accessed by blogs but Search engines? -> Options -> Reading Scroll down until you see this: Syndication Feeds Show the most recent: ____posts For each article, show: ____Full text ____Summary If you choose " summary " then the blog scrapers will only get a short excerpt of your post, rather then the whole post. And if you choose to only set the feed for one post at a time they may not think your single summarized blog post is worth the bother. Note: If you use the <!--more--> feature, [icon 13 in the visual rich text editor] it will cut off posts in RSS feeds. The above is from this page: http://tinyurl.com/32nqk6s there are also other tidbits you may find useful too... > > Last week in my google alert I saw that a website called seniorhomecareinformation.com had placed an article called The Cruelty of Lewy Body Dementia, Part II on their site, passing it off as their own.
