Apple Juice Improves Behavior of Alzheimer's Patients

(Source: University of Massachusetts) - In a small study (21 institutionalized

individuals with moderate-to-severe AD) research reveals that apple juice is

beneficial for improving behavior of patients suffering from Alzheimer's.

However, it does not improve thinking. The research was published in the

American Journal of Alzheimer's Disease and Other Dementias. The researchers

included Lepore, Kotlya, Ruth Remington, Amy Chan and

Shea from the University of Massachusetts.

Researchers found that patients who drank two-four ounces apple juice in a day

depicted no alteration in their dementia rating scale. But the Neuropsychiatric

Inventory recorded a 27% improvement.

The study authors reported that positive effect of apple juice on the behavioral

and psychological symptoms of dementia proves that nutritional diet is

beneficial for the Alzheimer's patient. Therefore, the diet should include fruit

and vegetable juices as they cause a delay in the start and development of

Alzheimer's disease.
