Guest guest
My son (7 months)has been in his Starband for 2 months. When he first got it,he was able to wear it for a couple of days and evidentaly had a growth spurt and it became too tight and was breaking his skin down.Since we live 3 hrs. away ,we were told if it did this to take it off and wait until our next apptointment,(we go every 2 weeks) and the ortho. would take off some foam from inside. We did this same thing two more trips(broke down skin...more padding off.) Now it seems he took TOO much off, and now it goes close to his eyes or back on his head.I am curious if that is a normal part of this process or not.I am becoming discouraged, it seems as if there is no progress now. Please help me ! Guest guest
Does the facility have the scanner? If so has his head improved in the scans? Have you taken pictures every week or two to try to track progress? Sometimes it would seem that i wasn't seeing correction until i looked at prior photos. I am a bit surprised your ortho suggested you just take his helmet off and wait until your scheduled appointment. Jenna's ortho had us call when any issues came up and fit us right in. I realize you are 3 hours away but i would think the ortho would want to get you in as soon as you were able to travel. I just want to add that i respect everyone who is traveling so far for their baby's treatment!!! Where are you located? Maybe someone has used that location. Jenna's band was a little close to her eyes but not blocking her vision. This was to use her forehead as a holding point. Do you have any photos you can post? It is common for slight shifting after an adjustment but it shouldn't move a lot. Guest guest
Hi and welcome to the group. I would suggest you take this matter up with the main orthotist where your son is being treated. They should be able to get you right in when there is a problem. Skin breakdowns should be addressed immediately. At 2 months of treatment, you should definitely be seeing some improvement, but if he is out of the band more than he is in the band that would explain it. It is impairative that these devices be worn 23 hours a day 7 days a week. Please let us know what they do. Guest guest
Hi there - I agree with Dustie, that you should speak to someone there. If he hasn't been wearing it much, then it will definitely effect treatment. On average, how many hours a day would you say he has been wearing the band consistently? It is common sometimes after an adjustment that the band will sit a little differently when the move in certain positions, but it shouldn't be that close to his eyes (or over his eyes). Definitely let everyone know what they say - Rhonda Mom to Collin - 2003 DOC Band Graduate --- In Plagiocephaly , " itscharla " <itscharla@y...> wrote: > My son (7 months)has been in his Starband for 2 months. When he first > got it,he was able to wear it for a couple of days and evidentaly had > a growth spurt and it became too tight and was breaking his skin > down.Since we live 3 hrs. away ,we were told if it did this to take > it off and wait until our next apptointment,(we go every 2 weeks) and > the ortho. would take off some foam from inside. Guest guest
Hi, Welcome to the group. I agree with Dustie and Rhonda, you need to speak to someone there. Your son's head isn't going to round out if he can't wear his band. It is possible that so much was shaved off that it has compromised the way the band works. You should go over to Orthomerica's web site http://www.orthomerica.com and drop them an email. I'm sure they'll be more than willing to help you out. Please keep us posted! --- In Plagiocephaly , " itscharla " <itscharla@y...> wrote: > My son (7 months)has been in his Starband for 2 months. Guest guest
Tris, My son is in a starband and we have seen great correction so far. He started out with the worst asyementy my neuro has ever seen at 39mm and he is now down to 27mm. He has also gotten so much rounder. We are thrilled with how well he is doing. The sucess of any band depend a lot on the skill level or the orthotist, so ask your ortho lots of questions, find out how many plagio babies they treat, and if they have any graduated parents you can talk to. You can see Jordan's progress in the photo section under Jordan D. Guest guest
Hi Tris, We have many STARband users that have been thrilled with their baby's correction. I'm sure once they see your post they'll reply. Your baby is at a great age to receive great correction. Please keep us posted on how he's adjusting. --- In Plagiocephaly , " trijess3 " <trijess3@a...> wrote: > Hi All, > > My son goes this afternoon to get his star helmet. Guest guest
Hi Tris, Welcome to the group! Getting my son a STARband was one of the hardest decisions that I have ever made, but it was the BEST one that I have made for him. My son got his STARband at 7 months, has worn it for 5 months now, and has received great correction so far. Your son is getting his band at a wonderful age and should see correction very quickly! What I have found, is that having a STARband is much much harder on me than on my son. He has not been bothered by it hardly at all. Please let us know how the fitting goes today! - mom to Aidan STARband 08/26/03 12/19/03 GR MI --- In Plagiocephaly , " trijess3 " <trijess3@a...> wrote: > Hi All, > > My son goes this afternoon to get his star helmet.
