Guest guest
Chrissy, I am on 40 mg. a night. I have heard of people taking over 100 mg. It takes time to get used to it, of course. Everyone is different regarding how much they can handle. I was very rummy the first day after I started at 10 mg. Just increase it by 10 mg. for awhile until you get used to that and then 10 mg. more, etc. Of course only do it after talking with your doctor. Warm regards, Donna

Guest guest
Hi Chrissy, I take 75 mg of Amitriptyline. I've been taking it since June 1995 at bedtime. The side effects have dissipated although I still have trouble getting up in the morning. Once I'm up though, I'm fine - no grogginess or anything. I am worried that if I go up to 75mg's though I will be tired all of the time. Can you tell me your dosage and let me know how you feel on it?? Guest guest
I am on 75mgs. I was currently on 100mgs, but I did not see an improvement after the increase. I am trying to get pregnant so I decreased the med. to 75mgs. My Dr. has had women get preg. on 75mgs. To answer your question on side effects. Everyone is different, but after 6 weeks on the higher dose the side effects started to decrease. I have my good days and my bad days with being tired. I figure that I would rather be tired than be in the pain that I was in before the meds. Hope this helps. Has anyone gotten preg. on this med? Guest guest
Hi Chrissy, I've been on the med so long that thankfully I forget how bad the pain can be. I just have minor flares now and then. Although, thinking back, I don't think it could have gotten any worse. I guess that would depend on how much pain you have in the first place. I am gonna ask my gyn to raise my amitriptylin to 75mg's. I hope it will help. Can vulvodynia get worse over time?? Or does it just reach a point and then stop?? I have had good luck, but the last 6 months it is getting worse?? Chrissy >>

Guest guest
Hi , thanks for responding. I have had several women tell me that the side effects subside after a few weeks. I am glad to hear that, it makes it easier for me to make up my mind to increase my amitriptylin dosage. Chrissy >I am on 75mgs. Guest guest
Hi Chrissy, I'm on 75mg and I'm doing very well, after a couple of days I got adjusted. I think, the problem is wether you are the amytriptilin - type or prefer to take other medication like the dothiepin or nortryptyline (vulval pain society, letter number 15). This medication is said to have less side-effects. Take care, a.
Guest guest
Hi Sheri, the pain was severe. I cried day in and day out until I finally found a good gyn who diagnosed me with vulvodynia. I thank God there is amitriptylin!! I just need a little higher dose I think. Chrissy >Hi Chrissy, > >I've been on the med so long that thankfully I forget how bad the pain can >be.
