Guest guest
Its better than the N.O. for sure. I would just look at the side effects info on this med, so you know going in. Valium or Xanx are sometimes used as well. Allie > > What do you all know about Demerol and children with autism? It's the new thing dentists are doing instead of Nitrous. They are giving them Demerol to calm them during dentist work. I know it's best to not use anything, but I don't have that choice where I live. > > Love and prayers, > > Heidi N >
Guest guest
I have not heard of Demoral, but for my son's dental work we used Versed (recommended by our naturopath as not heavily metabolized and the drug made him relaxed and supposedly helps forget everything if any emotional trauma during the procedure), so if you can try to request it. Guest guest
My friend asked Dr. K about it, he said the only safe sedatives are Versed and Ketamine. And he was especially negative about using any gas. Versed was used on my son for dental work, it felt like it didn't cause any problem. Dentist's nurse wanted to use Nitrous Oxide with Versed, tried to convinced me Versed doesn't work alone, but I stood my ground and requested to speak to dentist. It turned out that Versed works just fine along. It was diluted in juice. He also said that for general anesthesia Sevoflurane is the best option. That's what docs used for my son when he had his adenoids and tonsils removed. Anesthesiologist tried to convince me that they have to use Propofol, and Sevoflurane won't work without it, but it turned out that Sevoflurane along worked just fine. I had to fight of course. But Propofol has been linked to mitohondria damage even in healthy adults, not to mention our special kids... Take care, Dina. > > What do you all know about Demerol and children with autism? Guest guest
Propofol is also a no-no if you have an egg allergy. Sym Rankin is a nurse anesthetist and has presented on autism and anesthesia. She works with Dr. U. You can probably google and find her presentation.Keena My friend asked Dr. K about it, he said the only safe sedatives are Versed and Ketamine. Guest guest
Also if you have a soy allergy, don’t use propofol. We learned that the hard way. Propofol is also a no-no if you have an egg allergy.
