Guest guest
Oh , you are not alone. I think there are personalities that are prone to addiction. This give a certain stigma to the pain meds. In turn this makes life harder for people in situations like ours.  I can understand businesses drug testing, but it does pose a challenge when you have to take pain meds just to get moving in the mornings. Thanks to our lovely Governor, the state of Florida now require that pain management doctors have to drug test their patients. It's not that I have a problem with peeing in a cup, it's the fact that our insurance rates will most likely go up due to this.  I think I just hijacked your rant...sorry. ;-P  Subject: Rant about TV shows and pain To: " Tetheredspinalcord " <tetheredspinalcord > Date: Friday, November 18, 2011, 5:36 PM  I can't help myself.. So I quit my job and have been doing the stay at home thing until I start school, hence the watching TV shows. I am so sick of seeing this bias and constant talk to pain meds and addiction, I'm sorry about I have been on all the big pain meds. I was given OxyContin at age 20 after a exploratory pelvic surgery, and after the 3 days I stopped taking them. I was given Vicodin for teeth at age 18, and I stopped when my tooth stopped hurting. I got off morphine and a (3x times the allowed- SCRIPTED!) dilaudid NO problem before I was dx with TC. How does a 48 year old woman take Vicodin and all of a sudden become a drug addict? And how is the pain medication what is EVIL and BAD here? Call me crazy but I do believe in some kind of responsibility? It is this kind of talk that has doctors doubting patients who really need medication. It is this kind of talk that I have to hide my condition from employers etc because taking pain meds all of a sudden makes me a drug addict. And it is this kind of talk that got my concerns IGNORED for YEARS and almost had me incontinent. My legs are in horrible shape because of this talk. No one seems to take pain issues seriously. We are all just junkies looking for another fix apparently! I am planning to write in to those shows, and if anyone is doing anything else about this, I would like to be a part of it.
Guest guest
I take 3 to 4 x 50 mg Tramadol (as needed), 2 x 50 mg Lyrica, and my muscle relaxers are as needed. I am small person so my dosage is small, although, I think I will have to increase the Lyrica soon. I continue to try to do my normal activities but have to take frequent breaks and am slow when walking. I am having some problems with my left foot and am calling doctor to see if it is related to my TCS. Like you when I miss a dose of the Lyrica I pay for it with pain and not being able to move. The most Tramadol I have taken in a day is 4 and that was a severe pain day. I am in no way addicted but I do have family members who are so I know the difference. My meds are for pain theirs is for pleasure. Although, I don't understand how they derive pleasure from pain meds, high doses just make me sleep and that is not how I want to spend my life. I have 4 x 50mg Tramadol, 4 x Lyrica 75mg an for the muscles i got Carbamazepine 4 x 200mg. I am still able to go do shopping and than i have to go lay down as long i am able too. I am not addicted in any way. If i do not take it on time , I pay the price for it. And it cost me day to get my schedule back. As i told before, i trowed out that brainwashing TV set. Guest guest
Do you live in Fl? I do and have not yet had to drug test. I do not take strong pain meds and I get them from my PCP. I do know that a database is set up where the pharmacists and doctors have to report scrips for narcotic drugs and my understanding of this is to prevent doctor shopping to stop people from getting multiple pain killers from different doctors. I think that is a necessary thing with the use of prescription drugs sky rocketing especially here in Fl. I heard that people from other states come to Fl, use someone else address, and get these meds and go back to home state and sell them for a lot of money. This is the reason for the crack down on these drugs. I have known at least two people who died from overdosing on the pills and you hear it all the time on the news. This is scary stuff when you know people that abuse the medications. They make it harder for the people that truly need the meds and that really makes me angry. I take the meds to take the edge off of the pain so I can function throughout the day not to get high. I do not like our Governor here in Fl but this is the one thing he has done that I do approve of and feel it is a necessary thing. To: tetheredspinalcord From: redgecko97@... Guest guest
Yeah I hear you . I have been working full time before my diagnosis and in severe pain, I remember once sitting in a training at work and thinking I would rather jump out the window than sit for 1 more second. That's how much pain I was in. 3 weeks before my surgery and I was working 7am-10pm to make sure things would be taken care of while I'm out. The disability part is frustrating. There are a lot of people who take advantage, leaving others to suffer. Same as with the meds... I guess I take " strong " meds? But I have never felt the influenced by them, working full time etc and not once feeling different. So I think it depends on your chemistry. For example people taking Lyrica, I could never take it, my legs swell up. Or my dad who had cancer and severe pain can't take morphine because it does nothing , only Norco, and my hubby's mom who can't take anything, even NyQuil cause she starts acting funny I do think it's a personal choice, and we all experience pain differently. I don't knock anyone for their decisions, just the people who make them selfishly. Subject: Re: Rant about TV shows and pain To: tetheredspinalcord Date: Saturday, November 19, 2011, 9:55 AM  Me too, , How much do you take of all that ? I now take Lyrica, Tramadol, and a muscle relaxer. However, on the other end of the spectrum you would find one of my family members who I feel is addicted to these powerful drugs. She takes more than I would ever dream of taking and will do whatever she has to to get the medications. These are the people that make it difficult for the people like us to get the medications we need just to function on a daily basis. I have another family member currently incarcerated for being in possession of a controlled substance who is young with no medical problems whatsoever (other than what he created to get the meds). These are the people that get focused on with the television shows, just once I would like them to include a segment on how it hurts people like us who live with chronic and debilitating pain who truly need to take medications. I wasn't diagnosed with TCS until I was 50 and for that reason a lot of damage was already done to my nerves. I have had two surgeries and don't know what lies in the future. But I do know that I want to live each day to the fullest and not be so drugged up that I don't what I did or said the day before. I see that alot with people that take the strong drugs. Oh and by the way, what really makes me angry is the people who are taking these drugs and receive disability. I have been turned down twice and now have a lawyer trying to obtain my benefits. It is not the pain meds that are the problem, it is the people that take them for enjoyment and the doctor's that prescribe them to get the money!! To: tetheredspinalcord From: lilacs007@...
