It helps me to stay motivated to be low carb as I hate that feeling so much. The starlix has helped tremendously in limiting those feelings. Guest guest
Jo- my body got used to the high bg's too. At 275bg I felt just fine. When I first got them down I felt shakey. I too drank about a gallon of milk a day. I loved it. I thought I was being " good " to myself. That milk was healthy. I would get night sweats (I took milk to bed with me) and I thought I was going thru menopause. Now I know I can not even tolerate even a 1/2 cup of whole milk- sends my bgs skyrocketing. I think after drinking all that milk for so many years I " sensitized " my body to it and it now says " no more milk! " I know others can drink milk but not me. Thank God for all the info that is available to us now. I often say to my friends that without the internet I would be totally uneducated about this disease. The Drs are not very helpful or knowledgable. E <<I remember my mom insisting for years and years of type 2 dm when they had little else but insulin injections or sulfs to give her to treat things, that she knew when she felt good, and that she didn't feel good on those pills, and that by gum, she was *too going to drink her milk (one or two gallons per day), eat her sandwich(es), not take her pills, etc., cause she knew when she felt good, and she didn't feel good the way they wanted her to be. Now I cry to think all that I have available in terms of knowledge and modalities that she didn't. She died a horrible death due to her cardiac complications. I don't want to go that way. Now sometimes I find myself " feeling good " , only to discover that my readings are 180 or more. My body got used to living in that higher glucose bath all those years that I didn't know to take care of myself, so now my body, bless its heart, thinks that's the way to feel. That's what it considers normal. I'm still, these years after diagnosis, in the process of convincing my body that 100 **really feels good ... come on, try it! In other words, I've learned that my body doesn't always know what's best for it. Guest guest
" my body to it and > it now says " no more > milk! " I know others can drink milk but not me. > i adore milk. i'm hoping that my body will still accept it (not sure how long before i know all this, but i'm betting you're gonna be getting tons of questions from me soon). someone from this list or another list (i think i joined about 4) said to mix half whipping cream and half water for coffee. i love chocolate milk, and milk in my coffee, and skim just doesn't work for me. i'm guessing the 2% is not what i need, correct? pat (questions, questions) ===== wendy darling-pan aka pat http://www.basketsbypat.com __________________________________________________

LOL and i'm told white is dangerous. gonna go check on my mom, weave a little, and then get back to my puter for research. so much to do; so little time. pat ===== wendy darling-pan aka pat http://www.basketsbypat.com __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Jo Harper, you make a good point. Feeling good may be a useful guide but it is not infallible. Feeling good is often what keeps people addicted to substances or activities that may be very harmful. Tom the Actuary
Guest guest
Hi Pat - If you can still have milk in your diet and love chocolate milk, I'd recommend a product called Stevia Delight to make your chocolate milk with. I love chocolate milk, too, and use this stuff as a treat. Stevia is an artificial sweetener derived from a plant of some sort native to south america. The mix has 13 calories per serving, which I think works out to 1-2 grams of carbs in addition to the milk. You can get it and other products like drink mixes online at www.stevitastevia.com. Guest guest
I agree with both of you! I was amazed when I started testing more, how the times I thought I was feeling great my bgs were actually higher! Every 10-20 pts they have gone down has been a struggle till my body adjusts!.......Especially now that I am off meds and they are going down on a regular basis. At present I feel weak when they are still in the 90's but that is a big improvement over getting that feeling at 140!!! I think eating smaller snacks more often might help....I'm just not good at it when I'm on the run! I feel great now when they are in the 100 to 120 range and that is unbelieveable when before anything under 200 was a bad experience.
