Guest guest
Well it could be a lot of things. One of the first things i think of is emotional. Are you ready to give it all up? Is there something in your past that is holding you back from really " going for it? " Something to think about.. When you lose 20 lbs, do you see the long road ahead (omg, 80 lbs left!!!!!) and then cant go on cause it seems like a too hopeless task? Or maybe you " treat " yourself and then gain a little bit back (one lb, whatever) and then pig out cause after all, you gained? Then of course, you do it again and again, and you gain it all back.. Part of the reason i always gained it all back (I think) was i was diabetic and didnt know it; food called to me like it didnt, say, to somebody whose pancreas worked effectively. That isnt to say that it ISNT hard on someone who is not diabetic, only that for me it was harder. I lost about 17 lbs before i got pregnant, am currently at 12 weeks along. Those 17 lbs were EASY compared to having to lose before my sugars were normal.. Anyhow.. Think about why you give up at the 20 lb mark.. hth, christi I am 100 lbs overweight. I don't > know why but I > always collapse after losing 20 lbs and then I just > can't continue. > I want to start again but for some reason I am back > into the old > habits again. I can't find my way out. Anyone > offer a suggestion > for how to get back on track? Something I can do to > help myself start > back again? > > __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I think it's an evolving process, where after the " honeymoon, " whatever period of time that is for each individual, you have to reassess and figure out how to motivate yourself all over again! It's important to be clear with yourself about what your motivation really is. Then, make a plan based on your goals. For myself, when I was really feeling like I didn't care about my weight, those days or weeks or however long they lasted, I just made my focus to maintain my current weight loss, and not to gain any weight. After a while, I always got motivated again and really worked the WW program, following the eight steps, exercising consistently, and losing weight. But, I had to realize that since I have almost 80 pounds to lose in all, that I will have to be patient with myself, not expect perfection 24/7/365, and learn to practice healthy eating as a lifestyle, not as a diet I can discard when I get to goal. Also key is the idea that not one slip up does an avalanche make! Forgive yourself your mistakes and move on, learn from them, and don't let them turn into depression and a downward spiral of eating out of control. It's important to practice positive thinking when you have this much weight to lose. I'd encourage you not to think about the 100 pound total at all right now. Just think in terms of the next five pounds you have to lose. Five at a time you can lose 100 over time! But focusing on the five allows you to stay positive and make goals that are realistic, achievable, and specific. So, start here: Think five pounds, give yourself specific daily goals like " Monday, I'll drink those 6 glasses of water, Tuesday, I'll eat five fruits and veggies, Wednesday, I'll go for a fifteen minute walk, Thursday, I'll be sure to eat two servings of calcium rich foods, " and so on. Don't pile on the expectation to do everything right every day, just one goal a day that you can feel proud of accomplishing. At the end of the week, you'll have started yourself on the way back to healthy habits. Reward yourself with nonfood treats when you've achieved a goal. New nail polish, a bubble bath, a bottle of lotion, a fifteen minute walk by yourself on a sunny day! No goal accomplished is too small or insignificant. Maybe the second week, you can manage two of those goals in one day, maybe not, take it at your own best pace. You want to set yourself up for success. When you do lose those first five pounds, buy yourself a workout outfit, go to a movie, rent a chick flick to watch at home, do something significant and meaningful to celebrate! and keep celebrating each five pounds lost! Armywife, you can do this! We're all here doing it together! Join us! Amy > I joined this group some time ago. I had forgotten about it until I > noticed it on the " my groups " page. I've been living with major amounts of stress for nearly two years now (my email address should say it all). I know that ideally I shouldn't eat because of stress, just hunger, but I'm still human so... What I do is keep *small* portions of " comfort foods " around. If I had a whole pizza or a big chocolate bar around, I'd probably down those when the going got rough. When I have to unwrap and heat the pizza a half a slice at a time, or eat the chocolate in only miniatures, I can catch myself before it's gone way too far. I also try to get myself to eat some vegetables in between slices or bars, and hope my stomach cries uncle before my mind is lulled and dulled. And good for you--going on the treadmill is much better than the food. I go out biking if I can when it's stressful (in addition to my daily rides) and keep going until I feel that exercise high start. --A

I think you are doing the right thing. Maybee instead of eating the food first you can try to get on the treadmill. I know by the time I get done walking I don't really want to eat anything heavy. Even in my stress mode. I do get to that mode alot lately. Guest guest
It's hard for a three year old to understand. I'm sure your doing your best. Moving is a big deal. I don't know anyone who likes it. As far as WW. If you can't journal, don't worry about it for now. Try to make better choices and don't be too hard on yourself if you slip or gain a little. You already know that if you don't eat right you will feel awful. Try to keep healthy snacks handy. You said this move is going to happen this week. Putting WW on hold for a week or two shouldn't hurt you too much. Just make it a priority once your settled. Congratulations on the promotion! _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com
