Guest guest
's mom- Welcome to the group! I don't know offhand of anything in Tennessee, but would suggest you go to the board (I'm not sure how you read these messages - individual e-mails or on the board), and search the archives for Memphis or Tennessee and hopefully they'll be some information there. It doesn't look like Cranial Technologies has a location near you (I checked their website), but perhaps there is a STARband or NOPCO or other local helmet orthotist in your area. If not, check the archives for information on Angel Flight - they'll fly you to a Cranial Tech location if you can't get some sort of treatment in your area. Good luck, and I would definitely try a band before surgery as long as your daughter has plagio and craniosynstosis (where the plates prematurely fuse)! The bands work wonders in the right (*trained* orthotist) hands!! Kerri from NY 's mom (DOCgrad) --- In Plagiocephaly , " Comas " <macomas@y...> wrote: > Hello everyone! Guest guest
, Welcome to the group! Posts like yours really upset me. If you baby has positional plagio she will benefit from band therapy! This specialist is obviously very, very old school. Many years ago plagio babies did have to have surgery to correct their mishappened heads. Not anymore!! As long as the sutures aren't fused there is no need for surgery. These bands and helmets DO work and it's proven over and over again. I'm sure our members from Tennessee will reply to your post as soon as they see it. In the meantime you can check out these sites to see if they have treatment available in your area. http://www.cranialtech.com http://www.orthomerica.com Please keep us posted!! I forgot to add that a second opinion is ALWAYS a good thing. --- In Plagiocephaly , " Comas " <macomas@y...> wrote: > Hello everyone! Guest guest
--Hi and welcome to the group. We are in mIssouri but i just wanted to tell you these helmets do work!!! In the files section there is a list of our babies that have before and after band pictures. Please check out these wonderful corrections with the bands. I hope we have someone in your area who can reccommend another doctor. Have you checked Out Orthomerica and Cranial technologies websites? I believe you can search for an orthotist in your area, You do have to get the prescription from a doctor though. Please get a second opinion. My daughter jenna received wonderful correction after wearing a STArband for 12 weeks. She was banded at 9 months. Please keep us posted. Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the group! Although we ended up using agressive repositioning to treat our daughter Remy's plagiocephaly, I wanted to respond because I live in Kentucky, not too far from Memphis. Since we didn't use the band, you want to take all of the great advice in the responses from other group members, but I did want to give you some information about available band and helmet options near you if you ultimately end up going down that road. I used Mapquest to determine the drive times from Memphis Area (I haven't been able to locate anything close by, but I'm still going through the message archives!) There are two Local Helmet, and one Doc Band facility that I could find closest to Memphis. Perhaps some of the Helmet and Band users will chime in and expain the difference between a Local Helmet and a Doc Band? Guest guest
, thanks for the information. Have you given Christie this information? She is compiling a list of local helments and bands for our files section. Guest guest
Dustie, I just emailed ! I was so happy to see that she may have info on a local helmet in the area -- we just don't have many options in the Kentucky/Tennessee area, so this information should be a big help!
