yes, someone went to a seminar on it, and this was suggested and it works

better without the side effects, even told his dr, who didn't know this,

Are

you saying it is better to take it night to prevent the diarrhea problems or

that everyone should be taking it at night? >>

....

Glucophage plain... is best to take spread out throughout the day.... may

cause more GI side effects, usually settles down in a couple weeks,

Glucophage XR (extended release) is best taken with dinner meal.

supposedly does not cause gi side effects as bad....

Oh- I have heard some people say they take it once a day in the morning. Are

you saying it is better to take it night to prevent the diarrhea problems or

that everyone should be taking it at night?

but, and some dr's don't know this, as another list member pointed out, its

to be taken after your night time dinner meal.

Thanks to Bill Eastman, I got my free month's supply of it. I was on

2250mg of regular glucophage, but doc said to cut it to 2000mg of xr due

to the way they come (500mg pills).

So, I don't take 4 pills at dinner in addition to the other pills I

take, I take 2 at dinner and 2 at breakfast and my numbers have been

staying real good doing it that way.

It was me...I went to a Taking Control of Your Diabetes Conference (see

http://www.tcoyd.org) and the drug rep from BMS (the manufacture of Glucophage

and Glucophage XR) said it should be taken at night. I switched and am taking 4

pills with dinner, and my numbers have improved.

The way Glucophage XR was explained to me, you take the same dosage all with

your evening meal. I am taking 15 mg Actos in the morning. They have a

website, http://www.glucophagexr.com

If you haven't gotten a free months supply, go to

http://www.glucophagexr.com/march_free.html and print out the coupon. It is

good through April 30, 2001.

I normally pay $20 for name brand prescription if it is on the list or $35 if it

isn't. Lucky for me it is on the $20 list. Generic is only $5 and a generic of

regular Glucophage can exist as soon as the drug manufactures get off their you

know what.
