It is hard to be in the mood when you have constant pain. I hope you get your

pain managed better. This has been difficult for me too. You are not alone. -

It can be most relaxed thing, Just like a sport masage ore a hot bath.

Al you need is practice and fun.

For me it works better then playing Wrestling ore rugby Sighhhhh hahaha

Nope i am serieus about this, in the right way it helps you relax and it

helps against the pain

A lot is written about this

one of them http://www.mayoclinic.com/

I got the books but they all translated in dutch.

And they have the guts to talk about it in any form.

My sextherapist at the rehabilitation centre put them on on her book list.

Good luck

Hi ,

I know this goes against what you think when you're in pain or aren't in the

mood due to medication, but the best way to help fix this is to try, try,

try. Pain goes away to some degree when you feel good and studies have

shown that intimacy raises chemicals that help mask the pain for the time

being.

The thing is it's not the pain. I mean it has been because it was BAD at certain

points esp with the fibro added into it.

But it has just been no interest/no drive.

I'm getting switched to Oxycontin to see if it will help.

She tried putting me on a new ER Diludid but it's $250 WITH insurance!

Jan- thanks, I can do the hot bath, but no massage, makes me worse unfortunately

Sex causes a massive release of endorphins, the body's natural pain killers.

Also, often if not in the mood, just being intimate, close, can lead to other

things, unintended things. I think the worst thing we can do to ourselves is to

give in to the lack of desire. Allowing the sex drive to atrophy is a sadness

I'm not willing to risk. I mean, geez, our bodies are in revolt so much of the

time. I don't pass up a chance to feel good, even if I don't really feel like it

at the moment. I do get the impression that I'm different this way, that many

(men and women) are repulsed by sexual advances when the mood isn't right, but

I'd suggest relaxing and as Kathy says, just try. Most of the time, if I hurt

and think sex is the last thing I could ever want, when I allow my husband to

try to put me in the mood, it works.

There are so few things in this life that feel good and are free for the taking.

I hope you can find a solution because it really is a shame when we can't enjoy

the most basic pleasure because of pain.

This is true - even if not in the mood a little foreplay can change things.

I have a tendency to get my brain so wrapped around my To Do list that I

can't unwind and end up not in the mood. But, if he can get me in bed for 5

min - he can change that. I have seen many MDs/therapists say that you have

to schedule sex/intimacy into your week (if you have to) and even if not in

the mood at the scheduled time - do it anyway (or at least give it a good

go). Like I said, even if I'm not in the mood, sometimes I give into his

advances anyway. After 5 or 10 min, the hormones get flowing and I'm in the

mood. It is a good pain killer too!

I tend to think that you won't notice much difference regardless which

narcotic pain med you take. Narcotics are narcotics, especially as side

effects go and especially when talking about the chronic pain ones for LT

use (yes, I know there can be some differences, but generally the side

effects don't vary much, not like with other meds). Are you taking anything

for neuropathy? Those are generally the culprits for decreased libido.

They are notorious for it. Anti-depressants and anti-epileptic meds are

known for their effect on libido. But, unlike the side effects from

narcotics, the side effects from different meds for the management of

neuropathy do vary greatly in their different side effects. If you are

taking a med for neuropathy, then I would suggest trying a different one -

this will probably have a greater chance of increasing libido than changing

narcotics. Granted, it can be so difficult to find a med to control

neuropathy that has a side effect profile you can live with, I guess it

would all depend how many you've tried and how many you've failed as to

whether decreased libido is a side effect you can't live with and manage

other ways.

When I first saw a physiatrist years ago he said almost the exact same thing

that I wrote to you and that and Jenn have written. He also added

that even if I'm not in the mood, intamacy is so important to a relationship

and should always be attempted even if one-sided sometimes. I've found this

to be so true ...

Yes, I'm on Neurontin and Savella. But it started prior to the Savella.

Will ask my doc about it, she seemed to think the narcotic would be place to

start.

Thanks!

Neurontin is notorious for a whole host of side effects. I believe

decreased libido is a side effect listed on about every anti-depressant and

anti-epileptic. Even if not specifically listed, they can all effect your

mood, which can definitely impact libido. Savella lists a whole host of

sexual side effects for men - just about every problem a man could have. It

doesn't list sexual side effects for women as a separate section (like it

does for men), but if it can cause that many sexual side effects in men, I

have to believe it can in women as well. Generally the biggest problem with

narcotics effect on sex drive is fatigue/sleepiness - making you too tired

to have sex - even if you wanted to.

Thank you all for the advice.

You are correct, and I'm really working on changing some things.

My pain is " controlled " right now. It's the mood, and probably because I was in

pain for so long it was physically impossible. I mean when you are in pain to

the point of crawling on the floor AFTER your meds..

But now things have changed, and I will be making the effort. It's unfair to my

spouse not to.
