SAMe (again)

hi folks,

for all of those that live in Canada and can't get SAMe, there is an

interesting article in the Nov. issue of MacLean's magazine....

it is basically one woman's story of her journey through depression and

every prescription drug available...nothing would help her until one Dr.

suggested SAMe, to which she responded favorably, now of course, she is back

on the roller coaster because she can't get it in Canada...

the article says that Health Canada reclassified SAMe as a new drug and

ordered it off the shelves. They want manufacturers and retailers to

substantiate health claims, which could cost those companies $1 million...as

this woman asks and can't seem to have answered are some legitimate

questions....

Why can't Canadians buy SAMe here...why should we have to order it from the

U.S. (by the way, health canada will allow a 3 months supply sent in for

personal use)...

Why are we protected form the potential dangers of SAMe, which has a clean

record as a prescription drug in Europe?

Where are the warnings and concerns about the emerging side effects of

SSRIs? Why are they prescribed for children?

and if health canada says this is a drug, why can't we get a prescription

for it?

just my continuing frustration at not being able to access a supplement that

helped Mike and many others....

Aubrey took the time to get some answers for me and I appreciated that, but

what burns me is the calls and emails I've sent to Health Canada on this

subject that have gone unanswered...for almost a year now!!!

anyway, c'est la vie....
