Re: Re: Heidelberg, Vitamin Therapy,

,

My endo was a teaching endo.. she had asked me during my first visit if

she could bring her students in to see me... I was hyper which was not

common, with all the classic text book symptoms and everything in the

extreme.

She had them feeling my skin (I came in every two weeks the first 6

months), first from a bit of a distance. They were to stand next to me

and see if they could feel the heat coming off of me... but.. notice that

I was not sweating as if I'd just had physical exertion.... then touching

my skin to feel the heat.. but dry skin.... feeling my thighs.. the

muscles twitching... and my upper back and shoulders.... My fingers...

hands held before me... unable to keep the fingers from moving... not a

shake.. but like a back and fourth up and down movement.. as much as a

1/4 inch of movement... while I tried to hold my fingers straight and

still.

They checked eye lids.. the movement... twitches in my upper lip.. all

kinds of things that had come on to me so gradually that I had not

noticed...... as my body used up the hormones in my tissues and my body

slowed.. she would point out to them more subtle differences and how to

watch for those as symptoms of hyper coming on or dosages that were too

high. As I continued to slow and go hypo.. she also pointed out to them

the advancing stages and changes as a body goes into hypo state.. drying

of skin and hair.. flax muscles, poor reflexes... skin cool to the

touch... slow blink rates. dry lips, and the half moons on my fingers

disappearing.

I so much wish that I'd kept a diary of those visits.... she was an

excellent doc.. I only left her when I was downsized and lost my

insurance..... I got me quite an education during those 12 visits...

those students got the whole range of symptoms from extreme hyper to flat

out hypo in six months, with the same person so that they could actually

see how it affected that same person through all the changes.

After that I came in once a month for the next six months.. she took the

time before each exam to talk to me... she even had me bringing in my

photo album to show her my progress building my solar greenhouse and the

plants... She said stuff like that was an excellent way of monitoring a

persons involvement in things....

how well they were reacting to meds as the metabolic rate

increased...etc.

She was just REALLY good.

Thank's for the info Zina.I'm beginning to believe that nothing is going to

surprise me when it comes to what hypothyroidism can do to your body.

All of my nails have ridges,5 or 6 have dents.I was told once that it was

because I chewed my nails for 5o years.I quit 3 years ago when my granddaughter

and I went to Kamiah for the Looking Glass PowWow and I did'nt want my relatives

that lived there to see such awful looking nails! Awful habit and I'm glad its

gone, now if I could do that with smoking!!

Shirley

Re: Heidelberg, Vitamin Therapy, Muscle

testing ...

Hi Shirley,

When I was hypo, one of my thumbnails had ridges in it. Now that I'm

no longer hypo, the ridges have grown out. As a matter of fact, just

last week I clipped off the last of it. I'm finally seeing some of

the half moons on my pointer fingers and middle fingers coming back,

but not on my other fingers. The moons on my thumbnails never

disappeared.

I had some good links regarding just this subject a few months ago,

but I can't find them. Fingernail malformations are good indicators

that something is wrong in the body. Just from what you've said, I'm

willing to bet its a side effect from being hypo.

It is called Kinesiology. The dose of Thyroid hormone is held to the thyroid

itself. Then the surrogate or person being tested raises their arm. If the

muscle is weak, the dose is incorrect. If the muscle is strong, it is correct.

This is not as far fetched as it sounds, really. Kinesiology is very

reliable. It has worked diagnosing my thyroid, adrenals, histamine, candida and

pylori.

I have researched this extensively on the Internet. I have some links below. <A

The type of Kin. practiced is as varied as the practioner. This is where one

needs to be careful. Most kinesiologist's are chiropractors now.

I will ask my Primary Poophead for another Free T3 and T4 when I get retested

for TSH.

I never noticed the half moons in my fingernails were gone until I saw this

posting and checked. Does anyone have any experience with getting dents in your

fingernails? My mom said she looked it up in a medical book and it says when

you are really sick, it can cause denting in your fingernails. Anyone else ever

have this or hear of it?

My endo was a teaching endo.. she had asked me during my first visit if

she could bring her students in to see me... I was hyper which was not

common, with all the classic text book symptoms and everything in the

extreme.

She had them feeling my skin (I came in every two weeks the first 6

months), first from a bit of a distance. They were to stand next to me

and see if they could feel the heat coming off of me... but.. notice

that

I was not sweating as if I'd just had physical exertion.... then

touching

my skin to feel the heat.. but dry skin.... feeling my thighs.. the

muscles twitching... and my upper back and shoulders....

I got me quite an education during those 12 visits...

those students got the whole range of symptoms from extreme hyper to

flat

out hypo in six months, with the same person so that they could actually

see how it affected that same person through all the changes.

I have no idea. I know my mom said that the dents are caused from being very

ill. The only other time I had them was when I had my thyroid removed so I am

not sure why I am getting them back, unless it is because I am now severely

hypo. Maybe someone else knows. I will do some research tomorrow!

I have found that the dents are called " Beau's lines " and they are usually

caused from an illness. Still checking on the ridges.

I also found this:

Ridges can appear in the nails either vertically or horizontally. Vertical

ridges indicate poor general health, poor nutrient absorption, and/or iron

deficiency; they may also indicate a kidney disorder. Horizontal ridges may also

appear as a sign of severe stress, either psychological or physical, such as

infection or from disease. Ridges running up and down the nails also indicate a

tendency to develop arthritis.

It also said on that same site that ridges can be a sign of hypothyroidism. I

have never read that anywhere. Has anyone else?

Angie,

Someone, a while back, posted a whole list of fingernail things that were

warning signs of illness..... I can't remember which group, though... I

might have saved it.. I'll try to check and post it again....

She really cared... unlike ANY doc I ever saw after her....

One jerk told me that it had been my choice to go without meds when I got

laid off and lost insurance. Yeah..... I chose to be so broke that I

could not buy meds and lost my house.... yep... I WANTED to do that!

This is the same doc that had his nurse call me on the phone to let me

know that based on my last labs they would be increasing my dose to 150

mcg per day of Synthroid.... when I told her that I was currently taking

200 and 150 was a decrease, not an increase, she got all confused and

said that she'd have the doc call back... He did.. he said that I had a

shitty attitude and that I should continue on the same dose.

My thought now.... did I need a higher dose and he was just the jerk I

knew him to be and not increase it?

I've found out since then the T4 dosing is based on mcg per pound of body

weight for those with NO thyroid activity... which means that I was

underdosed.

I've said it before... If I ever find a really good doc again, if I ever

choose to see a doc again, I'll give him/her a trophy so that everyone

can see!

Hi Shirley,

When I was hypo, one of my thumbnails had ridges in it. Now that I'm

no longer hypo, the ridges have grown out. As a matter of fact, just

last week I clipped off the last of it. I'm finally seeing some of

the half moons on my pointer fingers and middle fingers coming back,

but not on my other fingers. The moons on my thumbnails never

disappeared.

I had some good links regarding just this subject a few months ago,

but I can't find them. Fingernail malformations are good indicators

that something is wrong in the body. Just from what you've said, I'm

willing to bet its a side effect from being hypo.

Zina,

Your moons are coming back!!!! In thirteen years I've not gotten mine

back... (the ones on the thumbs stay) Proof... that I was underdosed for

all those years I was on synthroid!

Oh... and a week or two ago I mentioned that I spotted a couple of leg

hairs.... Well I've got about two dozen on each leg now! On the front of

my calves for most of them... and one sneaking out on the back side of my

right leg just below the knee....

Nope, not thrilled about getting hairy legs.. but thrilled that my

hormone levels are coming back and I'm able to grow hair!

Hi Topper,

Yah, after we had that discussion a few weeks ago about moons, I

noticed that I have very small ones coming back on a few of my

fingers. I have no idea if this is an indication that a person is

hypo when the moons disappear, but that is what happend to me! I

love the way you word things. You are so funny about the hairs

returning on your legs. Its a good sign that things are improving.

Way to go!

Zina,

Come on... for all the horrid things that we have to share here... and so

many of us shy about some things... somebody just has to jump up and say

" it's " comin' back - don't we?
