I do eat in moderation. Is that because of meds? Type 1, Type 2 with meds and Type 2 with just diet are like separate diseases! I gave my opinion of the article for my circumstances and for people like me. I wish I understood the meds better....but kind don't want to! I'm hoping to prolong my controlled-by-diet period as long as possible. Logically, it would seem best to use less meds and have better control of bg's with food, but I do not understand how that mechanism works. (wsm311@...) I was on meds, but decided I wanted off, so I changed my eating habits (smaller portions) exercising more and lost weight. I have been off meds since Feb 2001. I am a very active person so that is probably why I can eat more carbs than someone that sits most of the time. Probably if I worked in an office or something similar I would have to go low carbs or be on meds. I ate oatmeal for breakfast. Also had more than 1/2 cup of Fat Free milk in my 4 cups of coffee. After breakfast, I carried some things from the house to my hubby's barn, watered flowers, then pushed the dust mop over the floor and walked out to the mailbox (about a 10 min. walk). One hour after breakfast, my bg's were 103. I do not have to do strenuous exercise, but just do something other than sitting. At some point, I may have to go back on meds, but I'm thankful for each day that I'm not on them. Eunice

When I tried it, I almost ended up in the hospital. >> What do you mean? What happened? When you say you went low carb, what did you do? I don't follow any plan either, I just stay away from high carb stuff. One morning I had hot cereal with oats, wheat, soy, flax, etc. and my bg was 106. I drink milk every day with my morning pills. My excercise ability is all over the place. Today I can hardly move. I got up this morning for an hour and went back to bed for 4!! ;-O I am incredibly weak from the !@#$! myasthenia gravis. This exacerbation of it has come back with a vengence now that I'm off prednisone. I'm about to go out and try weedwhacking, but typing is very strenuous, so I probably won't last long. You answered one of my questions about meds. I wondered if tighter diet control would get someone off them. I'm glad you don't have to take them right now ;-) (wsm311@...) I called my doctor because my heart was racing and my blood pressure was high (I was on meds at the time for blood pressure). I lost my energy and felt horrible. My doctor decreased my meds. I started eating higher carbs and was still getting the lows so that is when she discontinued my meds. I've not had anymore problems and I eat basically anything I want, but in moderation. I'm now off all meds for blood pressure. I have lots of energy and I feel great. Eunice

I was satisfied, especially without meds. I would like for it to be lower, but I'm not letting this number stress me. I really have no symptoms of diabetes - no problems with feet, eyes or any of those problems that I am aware of. If I ate what you do, I would gain my 54 lbs back plus 54 additional. LOL We're all different, but with the same goal - to do the best we can so that we can live a long, happy and healthy life. Eunice who plans to live a long, long time but not get old. Guest guest
Eunice is a wonderful exception to the rule, I beleive. She has great self discipline and can eat a little bit of a lot of foods and has great blood sugar. I envy her. I on the other hand have less than perfect blood sugar control A1c is 6.5, I guess that is OK, but not a 5.0 and have to eat like a pig. So for me low carb is perfect. Some of the meals I eat are: Huge mixing bowl of salad with cheese, ham and real ranch dressing with fried chicken pieces or 6 eggs with green peppers and onions and 4 pieces of sausage, but I am never hungry. So I think each person must decide what works for them. >> > Quit eating the ADA diet and go low carb! > > > >Hi , >Everyone cannot go low-carb. I cannot. Guest guest
An A1C of 6.5 is great. Non-diabetics are between 4-6. Most diabetics have troubles getting it anywhere near non-diabetic levels. What you are doing is obviously working for you! Great job! My last A1C was 7...and since I'm type 1 I think that is good! I also believe that everyone needs to find what combinations of food, medication, exercise works for them. No one is exactly alike, so no treatment plan should be either! --- Phyllis Norwood wrote: > Eunice is a wonderful exception to the rule, I beleive. Guest guest
This can be fairly typical when you go into ketosis and will pass after 2 or 3 days or you can increase your carbs a little bit. I have never felt as bad as when I went into ketosis, I thought I was dying, but it passed with aspirin and plenty of water. My daughter and son did it and had no reaction, so again it is mixed. >>In a message dated 6/19/2002 3:05:44 PM Eastern Daylight Time, >>wsm311@... >writes: > > > > When I tried it, I almost ended up in the hospital. >> > > > > What do you mean? Guest guest
Eunice in my opinion " you are the woman! " The doctor was very please with the 6.5, but you know I hear everyone saying 5.0 is normal so I am hoping when the weight comes off, it might get there. I do on special occassions eat what I want and I always will. Life is too short not to enjoy Christmas. I just try to really watch it. >From: ERWachter@... >Reply-To: diabetes >To: diabetes >Subject: Re: article.... >Date: Wed, 19 Jun 2002 20:31:25 EDT > >In a message dated 6/19/2002 6:45:36 PM Eastern Daylight Time, >pnorwood1@... writes: > > > > I on the other hand have less than perfect blood sugar control A1c is >6.5 > >Hi Phyllis, >My last A1c was 6.5.
