Re: Daily BG Averages

Hi, I use the Accu Check meter and it automatically provides me with

a 14 day and a 30 day average if I click the button. I usually get

this info several times a week. I was only 92 this a.m. so I have

to eat more today! That's too low for me - but my insurance sent me

glucose tablets this month in case this keeps up.

Oh okay. My meter is ancient I think hamsters are running around

inside, lol

My fasting in the morning is between 95-98 all the time so I don't

really test unless I am out late drinking or something, lol

Hi Pam,

Some days I don't test at all, other days I'll test twice and sometimes as

many as three times a day, but I always try to test after eating a different

food. I only test fasting about once every week or so because my fasting is

never over 91. I just did an average of my readings for the past year.

July-Dec, 2001 my average was 5.66. My A1c was 6.5.

Jan-June, 2002, my average was 5.62. My A1c was 5.9.

I did nothing different between the first six months and the last six months.

Hi Sandy,

My doctor started me testing fasting and two hrs after dinner. I did that

for awhile, but then realized I didn't know what kind of readings I was

getting after breakfast and lunch, so I changed the way I was testing. For

several months, I tested twice a day. Then it got to the point, I could

almost guess what my bg's were going to be before testing, so I stopped

testing as often. Most days, I do try to test twice, but it doesn't always

happen. My two hrs after dinner and my bedtime results would be the same

since I always eat a late dinner.

Hi Sandy,

Diabetes is a strange creature. LOL. Hubby and I can go to Golden Corral on

Saturday morning for breakfast. I'll get bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, biscuit,

sometimes a slice of ham. After eating that, I'll get some fruit, one pancake

with SF syrup and sometimes another slice of bacon. I'll have 2 or 3 cups of

coffee with cream. Two hrs later, bg's are in the 80's.

Then, there have been times I've eaten a salad with Ranch dressing (small

amount), SF jello with a dollop of whipped cream and a cup of hot green tea

and get a reading of 146.

Hi Eunice,

Hi Eunice,

My brother did the same thing... I went the other direction :-) I used to

only test in the morning, but I found out it was always higher in the

morning than at night, so it was good to know. Also, I wanted to know what

this low carb eating was doing, so I started testing before meals and 2

hours after. What a difference when I ate a low carb meal, compared to when

I ate even a piece of bread. I began to see what I could and couldn't eat.

Also, I found that sometimes I can eat a piece of bread if I eat it later in

the day... for lunch, as opposed to breakfast.

Eunice,

You are so lucky! I used to eat eggs, bacon, hash brown, biscuits... now,

I usually order a cheese omelet, with bacon or sausage on the side.

Then, there have been times I've eaten a salad with Ranch dressing (small

tea

That is odd.... I know what you mean, though. I've tested for things that

are supposed to be fairly low on the glycemic index, and my blood sugar has

shot up, and then other things that are supposed to be higher, don't seem to

bother me as much. Diabetes sure is a " strange creature! " :-)

I am confused on this too..My reading was 6.2 yet I get personal meter

readings of 150 or even 180.and the 120's too..I wonder if I am swinging

up and down to make a 6.2 reading. If I go into my doctor with this he

just says " do you want medication " .He doesn't really know..sus

Does this even matter? I have started taking my BG readings for the

day and averaging them out because I was a bit curious about my 6.5

reading seeing as I am consistently in the 150's at lunch. And on

average my daily comes out to around 130 lower if I add in a fasting.

Sus,

When I check my blood sugar at night, it's often lower than in the

morning, but I find it hard to believe that it doesn't drop any during the

night. I'll bet it drops and then rises again because of the dawn

phenomenon. Just a guess on my part...
