Guest guest
Hi Stan:-)THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH for ur email, ESPECIALLY for ur personal post, that was extreeeeeeeemely helpful because of the way u explained it all. And u know in the begining i too struggled soo much with my immense feelings of anxiety. it would arise as soon as i 'd b confronted by someone in public. it started off with panic attacks when being racially attacked, and later it became panic attacks from anyone merely giving me a disgusted look. i practised defusion, but very stronly believed that my feelings/sensations would actually arise even b4 my brain could generate any neg thought about it. Then when i heard dr. russ harris's podcast on this, explaning how our feelings r under multiple sources of stimuli at any one time and our thoughts don't necessarily create our feelings, i was sooooooo relieved to hear that and things started to make sense. it became easier for me to show compasssion for myself for expereicing such feelings and thus allowing them to just be instead of putting up so much resistance. Another thing was Joaanne Dahl's podcast, where she mentions the quote "no one can insult u without ur permission" and form over function and how u have control over the function. For me these were so helpful, as most of my anxiety revolves around people and being ill-treated by em. Just today i was at dmv coz i lost my licence, and the lady was so polite to the person b4 me, then her attitude completely changed when i approached the counter, and as soon as i moved away, she was back to being her polite self to the person after me. My instant reaction is always the same, i am always hurt, intimidated, anxious, it's sad to c that my physical appereance and headscarf causes such reaction in people, but now i am finally learning to realize that u really have no control over others attitude towards u. i can absolutely relate to every single thing u mentioned in ur post stan and u wrote it so well (great post!), so JAZAKALLAH KHAIR:-)i have not checked out the 2 links & dr. hayes blog yet, as i have been out all day today, plus tomorrow mornin i have my speech meeting at 6:30a.m. yikes! and havta prepare for my task for the meeting. but will definately check em out tomorrow afternoon. THANKS SO much again stanwasalaam:-)-K Designs."" Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.
