Guest guest
http://cat007.com/chol.htm Role of thyroid gland Thyroid gland is a small organ whose function is to produce thyroid hormone. This hormone is vital for normal metabolism of the body, controlling among other things production of energy from fat. As we get older, sometime after the age of 35-40, thyroid gland tends to slow down, producing reduced amount of hormone and resulting in a condition known as hypothyroidism or sluggish thyroid. One of the symptoms of sluggish thyroid is elevated cholesterol. In fact, before cholesterol became so popular, the only reason doctors checked cholesterol level was to help diagnose hypothyroidism. In my experience almost everyone who has elevated cholesterol level suffers from sluggish thyroid. Correcting hypothyroidism by restoring normal thyroid hormone level will invariably lead to reduction of cholesterol. Sometimes this is the only intervention necessary to normalize both the cholesterol and triglycerides. http://cat007.com/chol.htm
