hi Kathy,

I started meditating a few years ago. Not for pain management specifically, but

for overall health and to improve my general awareness and mental clarity.

When I was more dedicated to it and meditated 20 minutes just about every day

for 6 months, I didn't catch any of the colds or flues going around (and there

were some bad ones going around), I didn't get sick once, even though many

people around me were sick, which for me is uncommon. It was fantastic.

And yes I have read that meditation affects your brainwaves. I think anything

that helps you to relax, think clearer, and reduce stress is going to help you

perceive less pain.

There is a meditation in a book called " Full Catastrophe Living " by

Kabat-Zinn that focuses on the body and it can certainly help with pain. It's a

bit long, it takes about 45 minutes. I recommend checking it out.

Subject: Meditation/Chiari-Yoga

Hello,

Did anyone see the blip on the news last night about meditation and the positive

affects on pain mgt? I know - it makes sense, but the studies have me searching

for basic meditation classes. Has anyone tried it? The report states that it

changes the brain and how we perceive pain.
