One chicken sausage, canned soybeans with sauteed mushrooms in lowcarb

barbecue sauce, sauerkraut, big green salad with avocado, ricotta cheese

sweetened with equal and three huge cut-up strawberries in it. Vicki

Roasted pork tenderloin, Brussels sprouts, artichoke with melted butter,

green salad with home made ranch dressing, iced tea with Splenda. Husband

had rice to go with his meal. We don't always eat this " well " -- it was a

special dinner.

My splurge food this week.

chinese....

bbq ribs boneless

crab rangoon (only ate the filling and a tiny bit of the wanton when i bit it

to get the filling)

steamed dumplings... (only ate the meat)

beef and broccoli (no rice)

sesame chicken (small amt)

i'm guessing i'll be at 150 - 170 at 2 hrs pp.... not my choice of range,

but.... my diabetic educator has suggested that i eat more carbs to get my

levels up there more to then be put on more glucophage so that i'll be able

to eat more like 50 g of carb on a regular basis. now i'm normally at bout 30

g a day.

to keep readings 96- 112.

Those numbers are pretty nice, ...but why would you want to take more

medicine to accommodate more carbs? That's like feeding the medicine. Also

more carbs = more weight. Vicki

Because right now, i'm feeling VERY limited....

ie no fruit, no root veggies, no breads and cereals group.

I feel this will be a very hard way to live for the rest of my life.... i'd

like a bit of leeway so that i could increase my carbs to 40-75g per day at

least on some days maybe. (i'm not sure where i want them to be cuz this is

still all new)

I basically low carb too, but I do vary it to a degree when I " start " feeling

deprived and i'm able to go back to lc again, there is no advantage to

feeling deprived and if you can medicate for those carbs, so be it, I do it

myself. I believe everyone does. they just don't say so!!! LOL :-)

I am trying, but ever since I had to go back on the prednisone I have intense

cravings, want to eat all the time, and dr just told me yesterday I have to

stay on 10mg prednisone for a fairly long time to keep my crohns flares at

bay.

this is why I tried to do the magnesium thing, hoping that will help. Believe

it or not, my intense cravings are for grapes!!! LOL not bread or grains, but

grapes!!! No other fruit, just that. LOL

good idea, I have strawberry from low carb store online, synergydiet.com

Also known as zerocarb.com

But what do I put it on? I bought the low carb bagel, I have a feeling that

is mislabeled, or missing info, even with the 9-4-4 formula, which I took H

for I still shot up to 229!!!

Well, you don't really have to totally eliminate all fruits and root

veggies...strawberries and raspberries are relatively low carb; I can eat

them in small amounts (maybe 50 gram serving)...also I eat small quantities

of root veggies too, especially my favorite mashed-potato substitute, celery

root. I extend it with lots of sauteed mushrooms, which are lowcarb and low

GI too. But I do keep all portions ounder 100 grams. It helps to weigh

everything out.

Having small portions of somewhat higher-carb foods helps to make me feel Not

Deprived. Vicki

I have been restricting my carbs to those very low on the glycemic index for

over 15 years. ( they are so low that the index doesn't list them). At first

I missed the potatoes, bread, cereals etc. but after a few years I do not

even think about them anymore. My carbs are spinach, asparagus, cabbage,

summer squash, zucchini, romaine lettuce, iceberg lettuce, cucumber, ripe

olives, green beans, chard, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, eggplant, kale,

kohlrabi, mushrooms, okra, peppers, tomatoes and turnips. I also eat

strawberries, peaches and avocados. I do not eat any grain products (except

low-carb tortillas for fiber) . My consumption of dairy products is limited

to cheese. My point is that I do not miss any of the cereals, breads, pasta,

pastries and deserts. I am a type 2 diabetic 73 years old. I have been

diabetic for 34 years. I spent the first 15 years following the ADA

teachings and ended up in the hospital with two diabetic ulcers on my left

foot. After leaving the hospital I obtained one of the first BG meters

available (the Ames Glucometer) and developed my own " Glycemic list " , I have

not had a reoccurrence of any feet problems, my retinopathy has not

progressed, my neuropathy has diminished until I usually don't notice it.

Believe me this is not a hard way to live once you have changed your

lifestyle. It will be the only way that you want to live. JerrySteg

This sounds like my wife when she was pregnant with our three children only

she tended towards chocolate sundays and banana splits. Your not pregnant
