Guest guest
Well, I had a complete thyroidectomy and I take 2 grains. Sometimes I wonder if I need more but I dread being stuck with needles so I keep waiting to go in for blood work. Maybe tomorrow. I have felt my best when my Free T3 is in the upper part of the range. And TSH is really not important. In fact my TSH showed me semi hyper last time I went in but my Free T3 showed me perfect. So we just ignore the TSH. The TSH is just your pituitary screaming for more hormone. Well, taking meds has confused my pituitary. Taking Synthroid will really confuse your pituitary! I prefer to just look at what is *really* in my body floating around ready to be used (FT3). That is what really counts right? But just so you know " normal " people have a TSH under one when they feel great. My theory is Why would you want your pituitary screaming at all? It is ok for it to scream all the way to 5 (on the lab sheets) and you are considered normal. Why? Wouldn't we want our pituitaries to be happy little glands? I do! in AZ Mom to Jenna(7), (7), (5), (4), Junie(2), Jillian (7.5 months) and (3) & Duane(2) during regular business hours. http://members.cox.net/bettendorf > My name is Angie and I was diagnosed as hypothyroid a year and a half > ago. Guest guest
Hi Angie! Welcome to the group! Well, I currently take 1 1/2 grains (90 mg)of Armour each day. I split my dose up throughout the day. I take 1/2 a grain (30 mg) three times each day. I do this so that I get a boost of T3 throughout the day. It really helped me in the afternoons and evenings - otherwise I poop out too fast! I also take my doses sublingually. I let the pill dissolve between my cheek and gum. That way I by pass the liver and stomach. I'm feeling pretty darn good at the moment. I haven't had blood work done since February/March, but I am going to see a naturopathic doctor tomorrow so I will probably have some blood work done later this month or the first part of September. I'm anxious to see how my Free T3 looks. I was going to a PA and she just didn't know anything about treating hypothyroidism. She only wanted to look at the TSH and she likes me to be within the " magic " range and I do not feel good within that " magic " range, so I've been self-medicating since March and I feel so much better. This PA would flip if she knew how much Armour I was taking. She thought I was hyperthyroid when I was only taking 1 grain. I actually was still hypo. Anyway, we are waiting for you to spill the beans on your situation. I am glad that you switched to Armour. It really is the best.
