Guest guest
Wow, we finally made it!! I am so happy to see my baby in all her glory Anyway, 's birth was difficult to say the least. We arrived at the hospital at 5 a.m. on 03/27/02. I was in labor for 18 hours with 2 of those hours pushing. The epidural lasted until 5 cm so I basically went through all the hard labor with nothing as I wouldn't take any pain meds in my IV. My doctor decided I wasn't going to be able to push her out as her head was too large for my pelvic bone so we all agreed on a C-section. Her heart rate was dipping into the 50s so they were getting concerned. Paige was born at 12:11 a.m. on 03/28/02!! She had ridges on her forehead for a while after birth and looking back at pictures she had signs of tort right after birth. I became concerned when she wouldn't hold her head straight and was always tilting left and turning her head to the right. I brought this up numerous time to our ped but she said to wait until her 4 month appt. and she would evaluate her more fully. She was diagnosed at her 4 month checkup with both tort and plagio. I had noticed her head was becoming flatter over time on the right side mostly and no amount of repositioning was helping. We began PT at 5 months. We tried to reposition for a few more months and I finally got fed up with no one listening to me. Our first ped ended up leaving the same week she diagnosed and the second ped we saw acted like I was crazy for even wanting to do PT so we saw him once and that was the end of that. I have a chiropractor friend whose aunt is a ped and he knew she had a child with cranio in her practice and had referred him for a helmet. We started seeing her and she was totally supportive and wonderful. I had made an appt. with Dr. Frim even before we saw her so she was impressed I was on top of things. We saw Dr. Frim when was 7 months and he scheduled an MRI to rule out cranio and anything else like tumors causing her tort as she was showing a side preference. We got the referral to Ballert and she was casted a week later. She is currently 15 months old and on her third and final helmet. We have seen such great correction it's amazing. When Jim measured her last, she was only 1/16th of an inch off. I'm not sure of her initial measurements but I will try to get them from Jim next time. I can barely feel any flatness of her head. I haven't taken any really recent pictures of her head but I will take some soon. Here are some other pictures so show you her c correction up until the last helmet. The first pictures are from August. She didn't get into her helmet until Oct. The second set in the bath is from December. The third set is from January.
