Guest guest
hi Suzanne, and everyone your pulm rehab sound very comprehensive, and ongoing... ours is 6 wks, with similar exercise, a 6 min walk before and after the course, have our BP & sats checked each session & while exercising. These are free of charge however after that it's up to oneself. There is a gym running 'disabled' exercise groups, using swimming pool I think, for fairly small cost, I think $5 / session, only once wk. It's so good you have such opportunities for exercise and monitoring your progress on a constant basis - it's lacking here. Guess it all has to do with population density... Tho the cost does seem a bit prohibitive - what about those who can't afford $88/mth? because the session moves around the city, and really only allowed to do it once their isn't the same support. We have a support group separate, but there are very few who attend, oddly enough most are ones that were in the group I did rehab with. I've suggested we have each other's ph / email contact so we can be in touch when someone is unwell and/or in hospital ... didn't happen, little interest. I'm just so grateful for this group, have learnt so much, has been so supportive thru some hellish times this past year or 2, just getting so sick, not really understanding why, I hadn't realised this was part of the deal! & because of this group I was blessed to receive a SmartVest. I can understand people who can still effectively exercise probably wouldn't notice much improvement one way or another, but when that falls away something needs to be able to get infx under control so CAN exercise again - which in may case is exactly what has happened. I did the pulm rehab in 08 but that didn't help me not get worse, I did my best and ended up in hospital within a day or so, twice. Seemed if I pushed myself just a tiny bit too much infx shot up, I was down like a sack of potatoes. I was offered physio daily (again at cost) but the place I went to could only fit me in 3 x wk max, early afternoon, nothing on w/e or public hols. Looking back, it ties one down so heavily - how do you have a life if having to be somewhere for percussion physio daily? I love the independence the SmartVest has brought me as well as the hugely benefit healthwise. cheers all Joy
