Guest guest
Caro, I do not know if a dr. can give a estimation on when cancer becomes a greater probability. It is different for all of us, but of course the longer you have the disease the higher the probability as more scar tissue is generated. I developed cancer within 2 years of diagnosis (dx). Now, I may have had the disease for longer, but that is when it was dx. Blood work, CA19-9, is used as a bench mark and is not very reliable. PET scan (which is new), CT scan, MRI and ERCP w/brushings can be more definitive but can give false positives or false negatives. My numbers went from 147 to 297 in just under a year. A PET scan and ERCP said I had a high probability of having cancer. Luckily there was not cancer found outside the liver and the liver is still being biopsied. Hope that helps Darin
