Guest guest
hi doris, got your question about birds; the hospital didn't get into the specifics about birdcage poopies being a no-no for transplant recipients (i don't see how this would be a problem for PSCers!), BUT you CAN have birds after tx -- and you CAN have a cat after tx -- you just can't clean cages or litter boxes. this is a non-issue for jim and me, because we don't have pets by our own choosing. jim's always said he'd love to have a dog, though, as soon as they invent a poopless one... we all go to clinic on monday and will ask dr. sher the " whys and why nots " of all these issues and more. we're currently assembling a list of our concerns and questions. other people at the hospital are a wealth of information, but there are just some questions they want the surgeon to field. so, to this end, if you (or anyone in the PSC support group) have any questions to give me for her before then, throw them my way and i will ask her for you. just bear in mind some information will differ from tx center to tx center. in a way, it all seems so soon... TOO soon... for jim to be coming home, but in my heart, i know jim doesn't want to stay there. besides, no offense, but usc hospital has raunchy food. jim's taken to just bypassing entrees entirely and sticking with things like fresh fruit. the hospital cafeteria can't mess up an APPLE, hee hee. more later -- time to shower and dress and escort my amazing son to the hotel breakfast of belgian waffles, get him situated back in bed, rush to the hospital pharmacy and walk in jim's hospital door by 10:00 am because he's anxious to make a jailbreak. it's a VERY good thing i slept well last night (until 2, when i needed an asthma treatment) ...in fact, we all slept well (or well enough) last night: jim had his final lines removed which gave him great freedom of movement so he slept soundly, that is, until 2 when he started having a little bit of a reaction to the prograf... jason slept like a baby til he started another very low grade fever which broke in the cold sweats at 2. i find it so odd this all occurred for the three of us at the same time. must be a family thing :-) so, people, start thinking about what questions you'd like me to ask for you at clinic this monday. love, maureen
