Guest guest
I can eat 2 slices of homemade whole wheat bread but I have to be very active after eating it. I make biscuits and hamburger buns using the same dough recipe. I can eat a large hamburger bun and very little activity and get a reading of 98. The biscuit or hamburger bun looks as big as a couple slices of bread. Can anyone explain the difference? Thanks Eunice
Guest guest
Eunice: What other ingredients go into the homemade whole wheat bread? I have seen whole wheat bread in the supermarket that contains honey. Guest guest
I notice that I can eat a whopper with both pieces of the bun and come in at 98 but I can only eat basically one piece of wheat bread. So I don't know. ERWachter@... Guest guest
Eunice: Another thought: When you eat a hamburger bun, I assume that you are also eating a hamburger. The fat in the meat, from what I have read, slows down the absorption of the glucose thus causing a lower spike. Guest guest
Eunice: Even though the meat had very little fat, I suppose it's possible that it could be just enough to slow down the glucose absorption. Guest guest
Eunice, I have NO idea what to tell you...but maybe the milk is adding to it? I dunno. I'm stumped. And, speaking of bread.....I shop at Sam's Club and they have a multi-grain bread that I absolutely LOVE. It's called Milton's...has lots of purple on the wrapper. Anyway...I " ve been buying Arnold/Pepperidge Farm/Roman Meal...or somesuch whole grain/wheat/berry breads....but I just LOVE this bread from Sam's. The problem with the stupid bread is it has 28g carbs for 1 SLICE! AIGH! How could they DO that?! ((( It has .5g of total fat and NO saturated fat....and it's the best bread I've ever had. I had 2 slices one morning with fat free cream cheese, no sugar added jelly, 1/2 cup yogurt....and 2 hours later...BOOM! 191. I only had about 6 more grams of carbs than I should have had for that entire meal and it skyrocketed me. Not giving this bread up, so I guess it's 1 slice at a time for this chick. Dang. Guest guest
Perhaps it's the density of the bread. Wheat bread, at least the kind I get, is quite dense (very few bubbles). Your average fast food bun is pretty light and filled with bubble holes. Have you ever squished a hamburger bun, you can smash it down quite flat. Perhaps there is less actual food to a bun despite it's larger appearance.
Guest guest
Eunice, Then I'm stumped. ACTIVE? What's THAT? Jk...that's what I need to do. I'm just NOT a morning person and I usually have toast for breakfast....guess I'll either have to have 1 slice or do oatmeal and cereal more often. Ah, well. BTW.....I'm still taking 500mg Metformin a day....I take it with breakfast. This morning, I had my alltime low for fasting. 115! Woo hoo! Finally! Still want that number down around 90 or so, but it's about 20+ points lower than it had been.
