Guest guest
At 05:44 12/25/2001 -0800, that great guy Harry Marnell advised us: > Description : BOLO call for Santa broadcast Xmas Eve on Orange County >Sheriff's RED Frequency > >Anyone, including non-subscribers, can access this file at the URL > >http://groups.yahoo.com/group/in-progress/files/santa-alert.wav That pretty much tops this post of mine, which is merely the text of our BOL (and story around it). I'll be able to make a copy off our recorder but I can't convert the cassette copy to a wav for y'all. Because CHP officers are so " vehicle code oriented, " the BOL I created is specifically for them. We also frequently broadcast descriptions of speeding vehicles stopped by an officer when s/he advises it's a " WILL GO AGAIN " and gives the distant destination of the unhappy, cited driver. So it gets relayed from radio to radio and often from different CHP Comm Centers to others. (Stop a speeder at really excessive speeds a third time, and it's off to jail for 'em.) Since my Comm Center covers nearly 200 miles of Hwy 101 between the 450 mile stretch from Los Angeles to San Francisco, " WILLGO " is a commonly used CAD complaint type. <grin> Oh, all licenses are phonetically spelled, not " pronounced, " just to set up the following BOL. Without further ado: This is the BOL I broadcast at 2313 hrs on both our radios, simultaneously (to cover four counties): " Monterey to all units, stand by to copy BOL relayed from Northern Division for suspect and vehicle wanted for numerous violations. Suspect vehicle described as lowered early model convertible - souped up V8 or other high-powered horsepower engine, personalized Ohio license: " CLAUS " - license clear in NCIC. Reported as 23103 (reckless), also in violation of 25269 (displaying red warning light to front) and 24002a (unsafe load). Driver is an older WMA, white hair and beard, wearing red running sweats with white trim and a red hat with a white tassel. Driver is known for being Jolly in a No-Jolly zone and has been cited numerous times tonight; is a definite " WILL GO AGAIN. " Last seen southbound at a high rate of speed, subject stated he had places to go and presents to leave. Repeating: BOL for a WILL GO AGAIN, 23103 convertible, personalized OH plate: CLAUS. If located, stop, cite, and advise Dispatch of any and all contacts. End of BOL, KDE682 at 2313 hrs. " On one radio, a unit advised he was out of position. ( " Procedure " for units when BOLs specifically targeted to a beat unit, although this one wasn't.) On the other radio, within a minute, another unit advised he WAS on a stop with the BOL vehicle, and it was definitely a " WILL GO " - and in the background, the sound of sleigh bells were clearly audible. (Several times throughout the night, those sleigh bells were broadcast, anonymously, over the air from the field. It was obviously a recording of the distinctive sounds.) One officer, as he came in to go off duty at 0330 hrs, sniped at me, " So, why no Santa BOL tonight, HUH?? " When I told him I had broadcast it, and at 2313 hrs, he looked abashed and said, " Oh, we were at the jail with our DUI then... crap. " <chuckling> A few minutes later, a rookie came in - one of the still " shy " ones - and he said, " Hey, that BOL was cool - I pulled over and was starting to write it down.... I didn't get it right away... even when you started with the red suit, then it hit me. Doh! huh? " I grinned and said, " So the phonetic Lincoln Adam Union Sam didn't tip you off when you wrote out the letters? " That was the fun part of the shift. No fatalities in our area, but LOTS of DUI arrests (pretty sad, huh?) and a few stupid accidents without serious injuries. We also assisted two different sheriff's departments in establishing perimeters for two or three interrupted residential burglaries. (One suspect was captured - wahoo!) The late shift dispatchers are planning a potluck dinner tonight - I get to bring the paper plates. Guess I'll have to make a stop at a 7-11 on my way in. Happy to be here, proud to serve.
