Well, I'm late in the day, but you ARE dehydrated if you have not had fluid

since last night. Once you get there, you will know because awful doesn't touch

how bad it feels. If you haven't gone by now, GOOOOOOOO

You may want to check with her surgeon.. but my surgeon told me it was

okay to take milk of magnesia and he often prescribes either Pepcid, Zantac

or Reglan for post-ops having those problems.

You're scaring me. You could have a blockage, stoma or intestinal. When it's

for " awhile " , then OK, but since you woke up with it, you gotta now take it to

be seen.

Re: Painful gas - help

Hi ;

in Pa. I had gas in the hospital and was sent home with Reglan. It

worked

wonderfully for me. Of course, your surgeon or PCP would have to

prescribe

it.

Call your surgeons office. Better safe than sorry. in Pa.

Thanks . I am keeping water down now. Going to GNC soon and see if

I can get some pre-made protein drinks. Hoping maybe I can keep them down.

I really am not sure what will work and rather paranoid about this happening

again. I'm not afraid of throwing up once in a while, but 12 hours of that

and gas was awful. I know people have been through worse. But, no one

wants to go there.

This will be my first outing by myself. It dawned on me that I am over the

2 week limit on driving so I am going to go out in a little while.

Take care,

in California :)

i will soon be getting the operation in a few weeks. Is what is happening

to normal or its rare? Does this just happen right after the surgery.

or is it all the time.

Hi ,

I'm not sure I understand. I am able to keep sips of water down now and I

don't have any pain except my muscles which are just sore. It's been many

hours now since I had gas or threw up. So shouldn't I be ok as far as not

having to go to the hospital? I haven't tried to drink any protein. It

doesn't feel like it would settle well.

This is all so new to me. It sounds funny to go have a liter of fluid pumped

in to me. I hope the water I am keeping down right now is enough.

OK, I only read as far as got up & vomiting. So, freaked there. Remember I get

up to a couple hundred emails, so takes awhile to get to the latest edition.

If you can sip--OK, hold hand relaxed but relatively straight. Pinch skin on

the knuckle of hand to finger, let go, how long does it take to go back down?

Poke finger into ankle, leaves white mark? Nothing?

Hi ,

I can hold my hand relaxed and relatively straight. The skin on my hand

takes two seconds tops to completely go down. Poke ankle and nothing

happens.

Thank you, I really appreciate your time and input along with everyone

2 seconds is a long time. You shouldn't be able to count at all. OK, so how

much can you realistically say you've gotten in water today?

Since potassium affects your heart, you may need to go in long enough to get

hydrated only.

, dear, have you talked to your doctor? Doc can call in

something for you for nausea/vomiting, that will make everything calm

down. Then it's much easier to get rehydrated. Wouldn't hurt to have

it on hand for the future, too...

Hi Peggy Ann,

I haven't called the doctor cause I hate bothering him on a Sunday. I just

came back from buying some premixed protein drinks and as soon as they are

cold I am going to try one. Still sipping on water. You're right, having

that on hand would be good, although I would love to think this wasn't going

to happen again :)

Thanks for your concern!

- I know it's kinda scary seeing what is going through, but it's not

the norm. Not everyone goes through this. She's just lucky, I guess. :-) We

are just concerned that she will become dehydrated and get much sicker than she

is right now. This group of friends would rather err on the side of caution,

and might overreact sometimes, but it's cause we care so darn much. When is

your surgery date? Mine is in 5 1/2 weeks. Take care.

No, not normal. In fact, now I'm wondering if the milk caused all this. It's

possible, and some vomit from extreme pain. Milk makes me wish I could stab me

in the guts and let the pain out. So, not only will it make me fat again, but

it hurts so bad I cannot think of it!

She could have had a flu bug, or any single thing that she did or didn't do.

We'll probably never know, unless milk does this to her again.

It is not NORMAL to be this sick. It is NORMAL to have a break-in period,

though. A learning curve. Oops, this doesn't work, aahhhhhhh, this works great.

And the learning curve can go on for quite awhile! OH yes!
