Dave;

I am confused by your confusion. If you are 134 at bedtime and wake up at

127 or 134 (meter error up to 10-12 points and random variation), then you

have found the perfect dose of NPH.

Something is not right in your or my thinking, I don't know which.

The purpose of NPH is to hold your b.g. level through the night IN THE

ABSENCE of glucose from food.

YOU HAD A PERFECT RESULT. Without insulin your b.g. would have risen

steadily and maybe dramatically in the a.m.

If Gabe goes to bed at 134 and takes 7.5 U and wake up 124-144, I know I have

the exact right dose of basal (for him U, for you NPH).

NPH is not used to lower b.g. per se but to keep it stable is the fasting

state.

So please, I am concerned, tell me what is bothering you about those numbers.

The 134 was from glucose throughout the day or dinner. Your NPH worked

perfectly.

HELP. One of us is confused.

WOAAAA. Why add +2??? The numbers Dave are stating are within the safe

margin of meter error and random variation. Why add insulin to those

numbers?? 7 points??? I wouldn't add insulin to that by any means, but I

would observe at least a week. The purpose of NPH is not to lower B.G. but

to hold it stable. If he was 134 at bedtime and woke up within 10 points of

that then he has found the right dose of NPH for NOW.

Well, I was 134 @ 10:50pm, took 18u of NPH, and checked just when the

peak should have been hitting at 4:50AM and it was 127. At 7:25am when I

got up, it was 134.

As you can see, it's almost as if I took no insulin at all, and I even

" split the shot " by injecting 9u at two separate locations in my

abdomen.

This is getting confusing!

I'm with Barb on this one, the insulin is holding you all night with your bg

you're getting at bedtime, you just need more, I say just keep going up like

your dr says til you get where you want to be.

Well, when I first started using it, at a lower dose, I got down to 97

fbg. I want to get lower than 134 and I thought the NPH would do it. I

want to be 100-110 in the am.

I've been at 18u for a week now, and I really want to bring it down a

bit. As I said before, I don't know why I was getting 97, 104, 110 for a

few days with a lower dose.

<< Still not eating anything white.

I'd just love to bake a loaf of regular white bread in my bread machine but

I'm sure I'd have to eat the whole thing while it's still hot 'cause it

smells soooooo good while it's baking. *Sigh* I've given up almost

everything because of this doggoned diabetes. >>

Tootie, I'm sure you're on your cruise when I write this but it'll be waiting

for you when you get back. Since you have a bread machine, the Life Services

people have come up with a really GOOD lowcarb bread mix...cinnamon raisin.

The cinnamon flavor is pretty strong, strong enough to drown out the soy

flavor of most lowcarb breads.(Also, cinnamon is supposed to be good for

diabetes). I pick the raisins out...I think it's 5 carbs per 22-gram

slice. And it smells good when it's baking! You might want to give it a try.
