Guest guest
Even though we have had over 70 " of snow in the last week (I had to brush it of my car in 12 " piles), things are not as bad as they are made out to be by the national press. We are not all prisoners in our own homes. Most of the suburban areas have plenty of snow fighting equipment to handle even this much snow. Kenmore and the Town of Tonawanda kept all roads open through this whole storm. The biggest problems were getting your car to the street and clearing your driveway to get it back off the street. The City of Buffalo has neighborhoods with very little off-street parking. Cars left on the streets and insufficient amounts of snow removal equipment lead to their problems. Even with plenty of time to purchase the proper equipment (4x4 fire trucks and the proper snow removal equipment), " budget constraints " have kept the City of Buffalo from solving its snow problems. Most suburban communities can have all their streets cleared in 4 hours or less. Buffalo will take several days before they even hit the side streets. Buffalo has not improved their capabilities since the Blizzard of '77, 24 years ago. Snow will " settle " after it has landed. Also, the wind and sun work to lessen the height of the snow on the ground. Even though we received over 70 " of snow here this week, there is only about 18 " to 24 " on the ground in most places. The bottom line is most communities have the resources to handle a storm like this. The City of Buffalo does not. Kibby
