I drew up a schedule once with 9 dispatchers... (hoping, against all odds that my department would listen to me.) Put 2 on days, 2 on evenings and 2 on midnights... With a " working leader " on each shift. Stagger the two dispatchers on a six and two schedule... with the working leader working dispatch on " off " days... Had two people working all the time. Vacations, sick, and comp time off, you might end up with one dispatcher... but working leaders can change shifts... It seemed pretty workable...
