I changed the " subject " as I remember someone asking to keep that accurate to

save them from reading posts they wern't concerned with..

so you were good until the fall. Well, a blunt force injury to the tailbone can

cause PN, PNE and of course coccydynia. The mri or xray didnt show a broken

coccyx? Regardless, broken or not it can still cause all that. As for the TC,

very common for an injury to cause a previously undetected TC to surface. Not

that it wasnt always there but they never thought to look for it, although some

people do get TC after a trauma but it is usually higher and not a " tight fatty

filum " ...that is typically congenital. As I said before, these are all very

interconnected structurally so very difficult to tell what is causing what.

Because you did have an injury (some people with PN, PNE and coccydynia dont

have an " injury " they just develop the symptoms) it is very difficult to figure

out what caused what. The " torque " on the TC could cause all that burning,

tingling, numbness, elec shocks etc, too bad they didnt dx the TC before all

those injections and nerve blocks...we have to be really careful what we get

done. I know I was very concerned about Arachnoiditis for awhile before my PNE

was verified.

Subject: Re: pillow for sitting

I fell down 15 stairs, no carpet right on my butt, I had some pain while

sitting. It then moved to my pelvis, a burning pain. I went to OB/GYN- nothing,

I think I went to 3. By that time the burning spread to my knees, front and

back, and I had severe pain while sitting. I think I went to urgent care 4

times- x-ray, nothing.... I went to ER at least 3 times.

I was told it's heart burn etc....had colonscopy, bone scan, CT, MRI.. nothing.

Lots of nerve blocks and injections. Then some surgeon (who was very confused as

to why I was in his office) " remembered " a patient who had PNE, and coccyx

pain.I was sent to PT (internal, external) and had an epidural.

Somehow things got better for maybe 6 months, then everything started again, but

the burning to my knees has been replaced with tingling.numbness/crawling/

electrical pain, and I have pelvic and back pain while sitting and standing, I

consider it a 7-8 scale on average.I cannot lie on my side, I feel like

something is pulling me??

From what I get- I have some muscular issue, and according to 1 pain guy

scarring on tail bone... and now tethered cord.

That is why I REFUSED more injections...

Thank you so much for clarifying this. Now, I was also told no PT until we get

this TC resolved, due to more stretching etc.

Nope nothing broken.... I was looking into the dynamic X-Ray before. Makes sense

to me that if pain is caused by sitting I would need x-ray while sitting??

Yes, I think some broken and/or dislocated coccyx's only show up in the sitting

position.

I would disagree with the " no PT. " As long as your PT is experienced with

NTDs, they should be able to have exercises that wouldn't cause further

stretching of the cord. While it may not help the TC, per say, exercises to

strengthen the core muscles help anyone with back problems. The stronger

your core muscles, the less work the back has to do. There have been several

people who did PT before their surgery to kind of be at their best when they

went into surgery, so that recovery would be easier. Having strong core

muscles going into surgery would make recovery easier, as they would be nice

and strong and able to compensate better for the back muscles that were just

sliced through.
