Guest guest
OK, gang, here's a non-scientific survey that won't be administered by someone with a clipboard at the mall, or documented by someone that calls you on the phone but can't pronounce your name. There are no " valuable gifts " awarded to participants for their time, but at least you won't get your name on a junk mail list, either. Somewhere down the road, some of your responses may be plugged into an article or presentation, but, for now, they're simply information to share. Feel free to skip or answer any or all. Thanks! 1 - What would make your job better? 2 - What makes a good working environment? 3 - Is money a prime motivator? If not, what is? 4 - Is your department short handed? If so, for how long? 5 - What can be done to attract and keep employees? 6 - What is the worst aspect of your job? 7 - What is the best? 8 - What area(s) of training need improvement? 9 - What serious invention(s) would help you do your job better? 10 - What issues has this survey not touched on that are critical? Guest guest
> 1 - What would make your job better? Less whining and griping by coworkers. Management that takes time to listen and understand problems. Management that actually comes into the center and works with us. > 2 - What makes a good working environment? A room that is thoroughly clean, has a good ventilation system(clean and quiet), good lighting, not having so much background noise(the noise of static (radios that need service, the pc's running, air conditioners) > 3 - Is money a prime motivator? No, but it is good to make a living wage. You shouldn't have to work two jobs to make ends meet. I work full time for one agency and part time for another. I make $2.50 an hour more at the parttime job.(There should be more equity in like areas)If not, what is? I love this work. I have been dispatching for 16 years and still enjoy coming to work(mostly). > 4 - Is your department short handed? Yes. If so, for how long? I have been working here for five years and they have never been fully staffed. > 5 - What can be done to attract and keep employees? Our boss does not know how to advertise for the position and does not take suggestions well. There is no adequate background checks. A more organized training program would help and more consistant scheduling for parttimers. > 6 - What is the worst aspect of your job? Dealing with malfunctioning equipment. Working with a dispatcher who is placed on their own when they need more training. Or trying to keep someone who can't do the job. WHINING. > 7 - What is the best? A sense of accomplishment. Helping people. Working with other people that love the job. > 8 - What area(s) of training need improvement? We get lots of training. Only problem is when you come back from training trying to work that training into our system. When we have suggestions or questions for the bosses they don't have the answers and get frustrated and say just do it. > 9 - What serious invention(s) would help you do your job better? A CAD that is simple. Actually probably asking the dispatchers for their opinion of the CAD before purchasing it(novel idea, huh.) > 10 - What issues has this survey not touched on that are critical? This is a career/not a fast food restuarant/not everyone can be a good dispatcher. You have to have heart/compassion/strength/ability to listen to what people are not saying/work well with others(inside the center and out on the streets). The ability to do many things and listen to everything that is going on around you. Keep the faith. > > >
