Ordering Armour-one grain or one-half grains?

I went to the website to order Armour and am not sure what dose amount to

buy. This will be my first try at Armour so i will start on 1/2 grain am and pm.

Correct? Does the pill split cleanly?

I have a pill splitter-same principle. I split phenobarbitol pills for my epi

dog, but they tend to " break " and don't always split clean.

But you are right, the razor edge makes a more consistent, cleaner division.

I've been splitting all kinds of pills for years and years... just use a

good sharp single edged razor blade and dont' try to 'cut' the pill....

just set the blade where you want it and press down to split it.. most

every tab splits clean that way..

Besides, I've had a miserable time doing it cleanly. She must have a

better one than I ever did. SO, since I am lazy and frustrated by

pill-spitting, I'd get the 1/2 grain.....but you decide, of course!!

Oh, c'mon Janie.. splitting pills is easy.. I've done it for just years

and years.. ever since I started doing all the vitamins and herbals when

I got into body building... (that was when I learned the advantages of

small frequent dosing during the day, too, btw)... just set the SHARP

single edge razor blade where you want to make the split.. and press

down.... I set mine tabs on a piece of tag board (old potato chip box

section, actually) to keep the tab from sliding around while I make the

split... to do quarters... keep the two halves together and turn the

whole pill.... use your thumb and first finger on your free hand to hold

the two halves together.. place your blade where you want to make the

split (which ends up being between that thumb and finger) and then press

down the blade...

To do thirds of a round pill..... look at the pill and figure about what

a third is.... make that split.... now take the bigger piece that is

left... and give it a quarter turn..and split that in half.. so you end

up with one piece that kinda looks like a half moon.. and the other two

pieces look like a bit 'off center' quarter tabs.... Viola.. now you have

1/3 tabs..

See? easy! hehehehehe

If your pills are consistently crumbling.. most often the cause is that

the pills are absorbing moisture in the air... I make sure I store mine

stay dry... I now keep them in a plastic storage bin.... I'll have to

take a pic of mine sometime...

I sit for about an hour, once every two weeks to split all my tabs... and

then put them in my big pill box.. then every other day I move the pills

from there and divide them into two daily pill boxes.... The daily boxes

have sixteen compartments to keep all the little chips of pills divide

for time and Identification.. it seems complicated.. but now it's all

routine and just as easy as can be....

If the attachment works, I've attached a pic of my daily pills.. all

spilt and laid out with a penny for size reference... and a pic of my

home made travel size pill box... each little compartment comes out

separately so I can just tip the chips into my mouth.... works great!

I kinda think pill splitters get dull over time.... that's why I stick

with the single edge blades.. when they get too dull for clean splits the

get set aside for other chores and I get a fresh blade.. I buy them in

bulk so they are incredibly cheap and last for years and years....

Oh, c'mon Janie.. splitting pills is easy.. I've done it for just years

and years.. ever since I started doing all the vitamins and herbals when

How about if anyone wants to see them.. email me directly and I'll send

you the pics.. if anyone feels adventurous and wants to make some I can

sent the patterns and talk you through it.... I really like them.. so

easy to use..and the travel size fits in my shirt pocket and includes all

the info on pills schedules and emergency info if I'm hurt while out...

do they have half grains (30mg) or 1/4 grains (15mg)? when they had

biothyroid, they only had 15mg (1/4) and 60mg (1). I think you ought to

get the 60s since you have been on thyroid meds already.

hehehheehehe I consider myself extremely lazy... I'd rather spend an hour

splitting my pills every two weeks.. then have to work enough hours to

earn the extra money to afford to buy all the extra, smaller, pills to

make the smaller doses.... hehehehehe

I have such a funky body.. that I've had to split pills for years..

vitamins... herbals.. pretty much everything... so we're talking lots of

pills over lots of years... I also tend to buy everything I can in bulk

when ever possible to cut costs... so that limits choices for pill sizes

in lots of cases as well....

and for bags... I buy those in bulk too.... hehehheh would you believe a

case of brand new bread bags (10,000 of them) for 10 bucks? I learned

years ago how to spin em and tie 'em with a slip knot... I can toss stuff

in a bag, spin it and knot it faster than you can zip yours! heheheheh

and to open.. just pull..

..... I'm just cheap and lazy! hehehehehehe

I kinda figured that.. some folks turn off the attachment feature others

dont'... I might just wander over and set up a folder here.. I already

I'm in the same boat as Janie! I was splitting my 1 grain pills, but

I asked my PA to prescribe 1/2 grains, so I didn't have to do that

anymore. I just feel I'm getting all of what I'm supposed to be

getting, since when I split my pills, there are crumbs. I know, I'm

supposed to lick it up, but I don't want to do that. I'm into

convenience too. I'm busy, not lazy, though! Also, I'd totally

demolish a pill on occassion which was wasteful. Maybe the razor

blade would work better. I'll keep that in mind!

First, keep in mind I have a sick sense of humor. Something you said kicked it

off. You said " when I split my pills, there are crumbs. I know, I'm

supposed to lick it up, but " On TV, it shows DEA " Drug enforcement " busting

people after witnessing suspicious behavior of someone doing drugs, like

snorting coke or licking the pinkie. Can't you just see a very confused DEA when

they break into hundreds of middle aged women's homes licking the kitchen

counters for the rest of their Armour. I'll bet Abbott Labs sent them! ROTFLMAO

I had visions of that myself... I split my pills once every two weeks..

after splitting everything I use the razor blade and scrape all the dust

together and scoop it up on the blade and dump it in my mouth... if it

were pressed into a tab it would be about the size of half an aspirin...

and that is from all the pills that I chop to cover me for a two week

period..but I'm just too cheap to throw it away.. but before I do it I

can't help but look over my shoulder to make sure no one is outside the

window watching me doing it!

It's just hilarious that I do that.. yet I do it every time!
