Guest guest
Patti, How much do you spend per month on alternative medications for Mikes health?. Does Health Canada cover any of the costs?. There are a number of things I would consider trying but unless it was covered by my insurance I just cant afford it. So I have to rely on(Like Aubrey mentioned)Fresh organic vegetables. Organic grains and anything else I find that is certified organic at my health food store. On top of that I check to see if it is grown by organic growers in my state. I also wait til the end of the week when they have a sale on their organic bread then I buy several loaves at half price. Iam just a little leery about trusting alternatives because a lot of the ingredients come in from overseas from countries like Brazil and Columbia and China where they still use DDT(even if growers nearby are using DDT this chemical can contaminate other growing areas). They recently found DDT in several green tea brands(harvested from tea plants overseas). These brands are sold at all local supermarkets and even in health food stores. I will have to dig out the article and post it. Andi Andi
Guest guest
hi Patti, Your mother-in-law breathing ?? I gather would have been her 'sats' ie blood oxygen saturation %. For many people with bronch and getting older it starts to drop down into the low 90s. I know a lady in our support group, with Pulm Fibrosis, whose sats are in the 70s, on O2 24/7 of course, but just the idea of being so low is horrific! I know I feel horrid if mine are down to 93-94%. Like many things apparently it's something the body adjusts to!! I hope things work out for you to be able to be the carer if that's what works - certainly better than having strangers... it really is so wonderful to me when people can relate to their parents/in-law, able to care for them, even tho not always the easiest at times. I can't visit my parents, both in their 90s, as the infections I have would place them at too much risk. When I did visit I found myself under attack from Mum, I phone only now, just so I know they're ok. Yesterday I received an email telling me Mum has repeatedly asked me not to phone her as it upsets her (!?). Am now looking into legal representation between siblings & self plus silent number listing - I do want to know how they are, or if one or the other passes away. But after five years of accusations and attacks via Mum and 3 sisters ... enough is enough... I can only hope both Mum and Dad are being taken well care of. Sorry for dumping, folks, this last one was one too much. not so cheery! joy
Guest guest
why did I think we were not contagious, but we can catch what others have? Re: Patti hi Patti,Your mother-in-law breathing ?? Guest guest
hi Patti, depends on your own infxs, and type of ... how bad, how treatable etc. Also depends on health robustness / fragility etc of the other person. The elderly are far more susceptible, as like ourselves, their immune systems are weakening. In my own case I have new infections (from flooding in the house I was living in & recently moved out of as a result) which are resistant to all but Bactrim. The abx give me almost as bad a time as the infx, so altho relationship w/ parents is far from a happy one I have no wish to pass any infx on to them. I also have Pseudomonas (many of us do) which is also hard (almost impossible eventually) to treat - needs IV. Elderly people have fragile veins, having a canula is bad enough when younger and veins ok, but very painful when they become weak. Hope this clarifies things - and hope it doesn't freak you out! It is good to be aware who you're around for their sake as well as your own. cheers, joy h (Oz)
