Guest guest
Last night I asked the ER doctor if any of the supplements I'm taking could be a problem, and she had no idea. She suggested I buy a book. We agreed that over-the-counter meds and supplements can be just as powerful as prescription drugs. In hunting for clues today, I found the following website. Naturally, they're marketing supplements, but they provide much detailed info about many supplements: http://www.go-symmetry.com/info-center.htm Susie
Guest guest
Food supplements can be a tricky thing (especially since there are no regulations on them that they place on medications). If you do not feel like they are making a difference, they probably aren't. Many of the viatmins are coated in many things that make it almost impossible for your body to use it before it passes out of your system (one common thing is shalack{I doubt I spelled that correctly}...stuff they use on rooves). Plus if they add sugar to them, it can cause blood sugar rises. Many brands of vitamins also do not have all the vitamins at 100% RDA (with the exception of calcium should be around 65% and magnesium should be around 45%). I know that when I took store brands or even brands such as GNC I did not notice a difference. Then my sister told me about Shaklee products (I am in no way making a sales pitch here just sharing my opinion). Shaklee clinically tests all their products for bio-availability. They have had their findings published in medical journals (something that is very difficult for food supplement companies to accomplish). They also offer a money back guarantee. If you do not feel like it worked the way it should have, they will refund your money. There are many good brands out there. You just need to read labels and know what you are looking for. If you want more information, feel free to email me privately. Kaci --- wrote: > I have been taking a vitamin made by RestoreX for diabetics. Ya know, I never thought about it but I bet the two FLINTSTONE vitamins I take at breakfast is why my bgs are a little higher that meal than the others. I bet ole Fred n Barney are full of SUGAR! Seriously, I take Flinstones. But they are the only one's I will consistently take because they taste good so I have stuck with these. Guess it's time for an adult vitamin, huh? Guest guest
Shirley: I did some research on this subject over a year ago. I found this website to be very informative. http://www.supplementwatch.com/supcat/category.asp?categoryId=8 As a result of my research, I decided on three different food supplements. They are: Glucovite http://www.glucovite.com/ Gymnema Sylvestre Bitter Melon The last two are discussed in the supplementwatch.com article. I found that these supplements work for me. I have no opinion about whether they would work for anyone else. As we all know, diabetes is a very individual condition. My doctor is aware that I am taking them. In fact, when I first started taking them, I brought the bottles in for him to review to one of my appointments. He had no objections. If nothing else, the article is informative. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Those are loaded with sugar! Basically the kids vitamins have added sugar to make kids more receptive to eating them. It very well good be why your bgs are higher. --- sjgrace@... wrote: > In a message dated 7/6/02 2:33:32 AM Eastern Daylight Time, > angel1173@... writes: > > > > Plus if they add sugar to > > them, it can cause blood sugar rises. > > Ya know, I never thought about it but I bet the two FLINTSTONE > vitamins I > take at breakfast is why my bgs are a little higher that meal than > the > others. I know I can't afford to get everything on that list, so I thought I'd ask you guys what you take as far as vitamins, nutritional supplements... AND do you think they help?>> I take AlphaBetic vitamins....special for diabetics. It has most of the suggested supplements. I get mine at WalMart. While I was buying it yesterday, I noticed another brand that comes powdered, in packets....same idea. I believe they help. (wsm311@...)
