I don't know for sure if it has anything to with your headache but I'll

venture a guess and say you've overloaded on salt. And if you're not used to

adding salt to your diet, the olives are probably high in salt content, as

well as chocolate and ice cream.

Hi, Steve ! Thanks for the post. Well, I never seem to watch my salt like

I should, and I don't get headaches like this a lot -- it was quite severe,

although perhaps not migraine level.

I have a hunch it was too much sugar, together with the caffeine in the

chocolate and going to bed at 3 AM .... LOL. (I know, all of this together

isn't exactly funny). Also, I get very severe sinus headaches from

allergies, so it could have been a sugar/caffiene/wee-hour bedtime/sinus

combo. But seeing how I use salt freely without frequent bad headaches, I

just don't see salt as the culprit. Nonetheless, thanks again for your

reply :-)

Hi Dave,

According to my book on Calories and Carbohydrates (by Barbara Kraus), there are

..2g of carbs in a medium ripe olive. Double that if the olives were large. I

completely understand the olive marathon as I crave salty things more than I do

sweet ones.

Lynne

Just how bad are the olives ? I know there is only a trace of any

sugars/starches. There is a little fat, although at least it isn't animal

fat, and not accompanied by cholesterol. The salt doesn't help any, but

most of it is in the packing juice, which I drain off.

Yipes! Everything has so much sodium in it. ARGH! The most we can have is

2400mg a day anyway.

Halloween, eh? I got MARRIED on Halloween! :) We then spent the

evening at a church in Baltimore where Edgar Allan Poe is

buried....and celebrated there....there was music, poetry reading,

tours of the catacombs.....oh, how romantic! *swoon* :)

As for the cheating part yesterday....the only thing I know about

olives (and I don't eat the black ones) is that they contain fats.

But, you really DID pig out yesterday, Dave....:( I'm with you,

tho...I'm going thru that " time of the month " thing and fighting off

the cravings with every ounce of willpower I have. Most of my

numbers yesterday were above 150....ALL day. You could have done

worse, I suppose. You could have had 2 pints of ice cream instead of

the 2 cans of olives....right?

Lynn, that's right ! :-) As for olives .... I have my moments with the

black ones ,,, I really like them but they arent quite at the top of the

list. I love pimento-stuffed manzanitas, kalamatas, and jumbo cracked

greens a LOT, too ! :P~~~

I think I was sorta OK with the olives ... the fat is still pretty

minimal. Two cans is a bit much, but at least not as bad as the overkill I

did with the chocolate. I think I will do better when the stress is gone

from the end of the semester, finals, finishing research papers, etc., and

when my car gets its new engine put in (after being dead for 4 months).

Dave....you don't know what you're doing to me! LOL...I LOVE those

kinds, too. Can't get enough of them.

And, maybe you should " treat " yourself to a massage or

something....those are nice once in a while. :)

That was the amount our diet instuctor said in the diabetes workshop that I

just finished a little over a week ago. She was referring to diabetics but I

think it's a good rule for everyone.

Hi :-)

I agree with you about the nausea, I just the other day, had some juice...the

real...or should I say the FAKE stuff... I did feel awful. Last month the girl

guides were selling their cookies...I couldn't resist, seeing as how my husband

and my son were only eating the chocolate ones...I had 3 vanilla... I felt awful

for the next couple of hours. Im not sure why the excess sugar makes me feel

like that now. I, like you, do it very rarely... Maybe we are just two weirdos?

Am I any help? lol ANd 2400 mg of salt a day... you said we...meaning us

diabetics or us humans in general?...I try not to use it, but I never knew how

much to have or not have a day.
