hi Jacqui, thx for your 3 cheers - am still improving; now can walk up VERY STEEP hill above where I live, not far but makes good aerobic exercise workout for me.   is usually with me, coasts easily along not the slightest puff or sweat, I puff like an old train & sweat buckets; am getting thru Tai Chi; sevl hrs voluntary work at op shop, (they've been so supportive even tho haven't been going long, often missed cos not well) not much pain, not tiring so quickly, less pain after...I cough up less plugs now, so maybe that means there aren't cysts many left?  Wonder if that means the will heal & disappear..?  I asked dr he didn't know...  Am also finding can get stuff up on my own now without struggle, effort or pain, secretions not clogging perhaps cos not having chance to sit down there for so long.  Theresa - I'd love to talk to your Theresa's specialist - is frustrating to be told on one hand we know our own condition best, but since it is not "clinical evidence", is useless...  what clinical evidence a Vest is no more effective than a Flutter valve etc?  I'm wondering why you're being recommended for CPT if you don't need a Vest?  And how do you fit the time in?I wish some pulm specialists would take some interest in this & do research - and listen to pts, not just 'clinical evidence'.I am happy for anyone to contact me - email - I'll provide whatever medical backgrnd etc required. It's 3 & half months since last time in hospital, 5 wks I received the SmartVest, & haven't looked back, this is the first time in years, maybe a decade or more, I now have the odd 'off' day, rather than the other way round.  I like it a lot!cheers, joy Joy HensbyConsumer RepresentativeStatewide Respiratory Clinical NetworkQueensland Australia -----------endiandra@...07 4038 27700488 179 818

Well, that can be the case, but high intelligence should really allow their minds to take in all relevant information and come up with the best solutions, right? And, oh yes, it doesn't hurt if they use their intelligence to think outside the institutional box whenever necessary!

Hi, Joy. I told my osteoporosis doctor that, unlike last year, I would try to take more walks. And I have been leaving my safe-haven apartment and walking around the neighborhood. I don't go very fast or very far, and luckily my walker has a seat. It is so good to get out of the house.

,

My first walks were less than a couple hundred metres w a wheelie

walker, now walking up steep hill sans walker, Tai Chi and started

ish dancing last week (been wanting to go for the sev years,

just never felt well, energetic enough). Still have some pain, but

it has improved to allow me some peace at last and much more

movement. I know also without the SmartVest turning up about that

time I wouldn't have been able to stay well enough.

I was amazed at how quickly I improved & regained condition.

Wonderful to get out the house isn't it - with you all the way & wish

you all the best,

joy

Oh , I'm so happy for you! Sometimes just getting started on being more active becomes a catalyst for more of the same. Go for it. Does the senior center have exercise classes? Most do. Square dancing is so much fun and great exercise. My folks did it while we were growing up and had so much fun. I've been considering going to a local club's class to brush up come January.

Now, don't stop exercising when the weather gets cooler. Put on a heavy jacket and get out. And take a couple classes a week wherever you can find them so that when the snow and ice come you'll still be getting plenty of exercise each week. Glad you're having fun with the walking.

On my way out now myself.
