Roe,

You are not alone! Oh boy did people piss me off while my daughter

was banded. I am one of the ones that never got use to the stares and

people gawking at my daughter. It made me so MAD! It got to the point

that I started saying really rude things to people who wouldn't stop

staring at her. The last few weeks that Giannna was banded we

decorated her band to say in big, black, bold letters, " What are you

looking at? " across the front it. It really did help, ppl would just

take a quick look at her, it made them stop gawking at her. I hope

you're one of the ones that gets over it quickly, I never did.

My mother had a great experience in Walmart this week. The greeter

at the door asked my mom if Josie fell down and hit her head a lot.

LOL My mom said, " yeah you know those 6 month olds, always running

around and falling down! " duh

I've had children laugh and point at her, and say " look at her head,

what's wrong with her " , but I just keep in mind that they're

children and ignore them. I've had lots of people tell her how

pretty she is, and several people honest enough to come up and

say " may I ask what's wrong with her? " and I just answer them. I've

never had an adult say anything like that. Obviously, she was a

tactless, ignorant person, and I think ignoring her was the way to

go. I would have been angry, too, and would have regretted it if

I'd have said anything to her. If she doesn't have the gumption to

come ask what's wrong to your face, then she's not worthy of an

answer. You just have to ignore a lot of people. One day, they

just might find out what they're for, then they'll be embarrassed

that they said that where you could hear! I think the strangest

thing an adult has said to me was that her granddaughter had one

too, and did my daughter have epilepsy, too? I guess her

granddaughter had one to keep her from hurting herself? I told her,

no, that it was because her head wasn't shaped just right, and we

were working on reshaping it.

Hang in there! You'll continue to get looks and comments! It

doesn't stop! Isn't it amazing how people never notice your

beautiful children until there's something " wrong " with them?

I haven't gotten any rude commetns like that YET and I am waiting

because I dont know how I will deal w/ it! People do stare and I dont

even notice it and Xavier has been banded 2 weeks. I just ignore it I

guess and I figure I would probably stare too if I saw a cute little

baby in a helmet but I would NEVER say anything as horrible as you

heard and your baby does not look terrible how narrow minded! Just

because she has a band on she looks horrible I would hate to see if

any of her family had a real problem how would people like that

handle it? Sorry I went off but that is just not right! Great see how

I am an dif anyone says anything like that to me I will probably fly

off the handle! lol

hi there , my name is Kris, my daughter's name KariLin.We're in the

album if you want to take a peek,She has had her helmet for about a

month now. You are not alone in wanting to smack the ugly out of

people, i have had a real problem with this myself. I have a bit of a

temper when it comes to people making inapropriate coments or

pointing and stareing at my children. I allways let them know that

they are being assholes and allthough im not usually pro violence ,im

not opposed to it either!Just remember that you are doing whats right

for your kid and the morons that offend you probably wouldnt have the

strength or dedication to do the same for their own children.Dont get

me wrong , I have no problem with telling people about KariLin's

condition( if they ask me properly) but i refuse to excuse

ignorance!! Feel free to use my fav. line, (I used it when a man and

his wife were making that screwed up face that you were talking about

and the wife was pointing while they were asking rude

questions) " Your lucky my kids are here pal 'cause your wife would

look real funny picking up all your teeth with her nasty little

pointing fingers all broken up " The " woman " quikly put her fingers in

her pockets (before i had the chance to snap them off)the " man " put

his hand over his mouth and they walked away as fast as posible. I

find it quite refreshing to unload on these dumb shits, my wife

thinks i actualy look for people who stare just so i can confront

them, she says i hunt them, LOL. good luck i wish you all the best and

happy hunting!!! Kris KariLins DAD..

Not sure if someone already replied this to you. But I read a post a

few months ago where one of the moms, when asked what was wrong with

her child, basically said: " nothing is wrong with her, she is a

wonderful daughter, ..... oh, you mean the helmet, it is just to help

her round her head, have a good day " . I actually used that line a

few times and I think people realized they needed to be more careful

how they asked the question. It also made me feel better.

Hi Roe

I know exactly what you mean about the ignorance of others. We had

to travel for Kassidy's band and in the Airport in Halifax, Nova

Scotia as we waited for our connector to home I started to count the

women who looked at Kassidy and her helmet and noticed a great deal

of them looked at her with this " I am so sorry for you " , look onm

their face. I really hate that... There was one woman who came over

and asked me why she had it on, and I appreciate these people cause

they are actually concerned about it, and curious.

I get that alot at the malls and supermarket now..and I just look at

the ones who have a puzzled look, or sad for me look and tell them

she has a flat spot and like a dented can, the contents are fine,

she just has a flat spot.

The best way to deal with people is to consider that the most of

them are unaware of plagio and use every single opportunity to

educate the public on why she has it, and why it works!

That has been my mission. And now I get more questions on her

treatment and less blank looks from the ignorant!

I hope Caitlyn has lots of progress, and I hope you get more curious

people and less who just shower you in pity with their ignorance!

Good luck

Some people can be so mean. We only had are doc band one week and i

get tons of people ask whats wrong and then quickly give me a can i

catch it glance. I try to calmly explain the flat spot and how it

happend and what the band does for it. Alot of people have already

told me we know babys that could use that. And i even got a few bad

mommy looks. i know its easy for me to say but sometimes ya just have

to swallow the comments and know we love our children so much we would

do anything for them!

i am totally with you on education others...i even throw in how

insurance usually doesn't cover it ..etc ...etc...(i have twins so i

usually just say that my little girl sat on my little boy the entire

pregnancy!) in fact, in the grocery store this week a gentleman

stopped me and asked...and after explaining it and the insurance

issues, he suggested that he would speak to a friend of his who

works for a local paper to see if they would be interested in doing

and expose! who knows if it will ever happen...but i figure the

more i make people aware...maybe later on down the road it will be

easier for parents who have to make the decision for their children

to do this!

good luck to you!!
