Hey Colleen - Welcome to the group. I am in WI, too. I live in West Bend,

north of Milwaukee, and will be having my surgery at Sinai Samaritan in

Milwaukee. My surgeon is Dr. Chua. Where are you and where are you having your

surgery? If you prefer, you can email me privately.

Hi! My name is Yvette and I joined this group yesterday. It seems

like a very supportive group and I am happy that I have joined it.

I am 37 and have had insulin dependent diabetes since I was 2 years

old. I take Glucophage and use insulin to control the blood sugars,

as well as diet and exercise.

I do have vision problems (from retinopathy, laser surgeries, and

cryo surgeries). My left eye is blind (20/400) and my right eye is at

20/50 without glasses and 20/40 with glasses. I have some neuropathy

in my calves, but it is helped with massage from my boyfriend and by

taking vitamins. Believe me, the vitamins really do help! I also have

gastroparesis (a problem with food digesting slowly in the stomach

due to damaged nerves, in otherwords it is neuropathy in the stomach)

and take a medication to help the digestion.

My doctor has recommended and prescribed an insulin pump for me. I am

fighting the insurance to get the one I want. They are, finally after

several months, going to let me have it, but I am not sure exactly

when I will get it. I currently take approximately 124 units of

insulin (Novolin NPH and Humalog), which will be cut down

considerably once I get on the pump. I can hardly wait!!

I am currently overweight (by about 70-80 pounds) and wish I could

lose weight, but I love my carbs too much--and sugar. I know that

they aren't that good for me, but I just can't seem to pass them up

all that often! It doesn't help that my boyfriend doesn't have to

worry about all of that so gets it and has it in front of me all the

time. Don't get me wrong: he does love and care for me, he just

knows that I can't pass those things up in the store or at home so he

doesn't hound me about it and eats them in front of or along with me.

Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself to all of you. This is me

in a nutshell. If you want to know anything else, please ask. I am

open-minded.

Yvette

Welcome Yvette,

I'm kind of new here myself. I was sentenced to type 2 in March. It

was either that or community service. :-0 Lots of good people here.

We're all in the same leaky boat.

Welcome, Yvette! We're glad you're here. This is a very good group with a

lot of information about diabetes.

Welcome, Yvette,

We are a happy and supportive group and welcome

you!

Several members have insulin pumps,I don't know if

anyone has had diabetes since they were 2. Hopefully

you can give us some ideas on what to do with early

neuropathy and how to prevent it.
