Guest guest
Heidi, Do you mind to share how much L carnitine are you supplementing? I heard in another group that L carnitine is a thyroid antagonist and I wonder if this is the case, would it be a problem to supplement it to kids who might have thyroid issues. Also are you supplemneting L Acetyl carnitine as well or just L carnitine as some people say that they are both different and that both need to be given. Thanks for your comments Olga -- In BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism , " faithiseverything " wrote: > > The Geiers are into carnitine. ly, I think a lot of amino acids would give similar results since children with autism are low in them. But, even so, here's their research about it. I think I am mostly impressed with the lower platelets since thick blood is likely a problem in autism since they have circulation problems. I know we have thick blood at our house. > > The reason l-carnitine is being looked at, is the theory that it promotes cellular energy. Well, that is definitely needed. I am not sure how increasing carnitine will effect the other amino acids. Often when you get a lot of someone, you end up lacking something else. We do take this though, as part of one of our supplement formulas. > > http://www.medscimonit.com/fulltxt.php?ICID=881792 > > Love and prayers, > > Heidi N >
Guest guest
Olga, that's why I try to avoid supplementing amino acids, since there is always a trade-off. The doc has my kids on 300 to 600mg a day of acety l-carnitine. But, it's in a formula. I find that supplements are more likely to cause issues when taken separately, but in formulas, there are much less issues. I think formulas balance things out more. Of course, sometimes, taking things separately is better than some formulas. Since we take it in the formula, Mitochondrial Restore, I can not comment on what the effect is taking it alone. We get more energy when taking it, so it's not making us tired. Love and prayers, Heidi N Heidi, Do you mind to share how much L carnitine are you supplementing? Guest guest
Thanks Heidi, I will start giving it to my son again as L carnitine was on of the supplements that gave him a lot of energy and muscle strenght particularly in the upper area( he has always had a lot of strenght in the legs but not the arms and hands) in the past and I only stopped because we found out he had thyroid issues Some people said that large doses(1000-2000 daily) can trigger seizures so I see how he goes with the doses you mention. Guest guest
Hi Heidi, We are just starting this Mitochondrial Restore for my 5 yr old ASD son. Can I ask you how many capsules you are kids are taking? And is this to be taken with food or between meals? Before we used to supplement Acetyl L carnitine (250mg) in empty stomach. I always thought Amino acids are to be taken away from the meals. The Dr told us that would do nothing and asked us to start this new supplement. But this supplement has other stuff like coq10, resvetrol etc, so I am giving with meals. If this supplement is working for you, would you share this detail? Thanks Shanthi > > Olga, that's why I try to avoid supplementing amino acids, since there > is always a trade-off. The doc has my kids on 300 to 600mg a day of > acety l-carnitine. Guest guest
Hi, I have been contemplating using carnitine for myself and my kids. Do you know if acetyl carnitine help with fat absorption? Im not sure if plain carnitine is the way to go or acetyl carnitine? We have problems with fat absortion and are generally low on aminos. You guys are just so smart and I have been waiting to ask this. Noelle > > Olga, that's why I try to avoid supplementing amino acids, since there > is always a trade-off. Guest guest
Hi Heidi, Can you tell me what formula you use for Mitochondrial Restore and how many capsules you give your kids a day? I bought for my son Acety l-carnitine alone but I didn't start yet. I used to give him 500mgX2. Thanks! Guest guest
Mitochondrial Restore is a formula that has lots of good things like COQ10, resveratrol, etc. Anyhow, the ALA in it is time-release for those who are concerned. My kids only take one capsule a day, except for my 80 pound one who takes 1 twice a day. This helps, but I don't think it's enough to chelate. The doc says I can give more, so recently started that to see if they can get more metals out. They are still not able to handle gluten and still need to take supplements. One has been extra hyper lately. But, at least they are playing alot. I am so excited to see them play house like we did when we were kids. I just want them to be like it was when I was a child. We played all the time and mostly outside. That's what healthy kids need. Oh, the journey continues. Guest guest
I haven't looked that up yet. The doc gives us the acetyl l-carnitine, and that is all we have tried.
