Guest guest
Ken, I always have some hard candy available. That brings my sugar up nicely. Guest guest
They have the glucose tablets, I've been told milk is good. The nutritionist told me to carry a tube of cake icing with the top already popped open so that I could squeeze a bunch down my throat if I needed to without fumbling with opening it. --- km0700 wrote: > Can anybody suggest anything that I should keep > around for an > emergency? Guest guest
Ken, I've not had low bg's before, myself, but I know some people keep Lifesavers on hand...you could also have some orange juice or a banana.... No fainting for you! Lynn -- In diabetes@y..., " km0700 " <km07@r...> wrote: > Can anybody suggest anything that I should keep around for an > emergency? Guest guest
Ken There are all kinds of things in the drug stores for low blood sugars, but the best thing I have found is keep OJ onhand, coca-cola hard candies or something like that. Yougurt also is good. The very best thing I have found on the market is glucose tablets. They come in different flavors, and dissolve in your mouth. Really easy to use. Hope you find something that works for you. It has taken me 28 years to find this solution. Sharon in CA
Guest guest
Thanks Ric, That Easter candy I have left over (Made by Necco) shoots it up about 30-40 points fast. Found that out the hard way. Guest guest
Wow, . That sounds radical but delicious. Ken > > Can anybody suggest anything that I should keep > > around for an > > emergency? Guest guest
LOL!! Yeah, I'm six foot and that's a long way to fall. I had a buddy who was hypoglycemic and he collapsed in a restaurant. I didn't even get to eat my meal. His blood sugar was in the 40's. Some excuse! Just inconsiderate I say. :-) Ken > > Can anybody suggest anything that I should keep around for an > > emergency? Guest guest
I'll get some. Do all diabetics have such swings downward or upward? I tested soon as I got home today and was 108. You don't want to know what I had for lunch. :-) Ken > Ken you need to have some Glucose Tabs on hand they come in all different > flavors. > Phyllis > As a single person living alone... > > > Can anybody suggest anything that I should keep around for an > emergency? Guest guest
Ric, I think that's what took me to 547. I was sick and not moving around much and munching those Necco Easter eggs and swizzling Coke. I ate a small handful the other night and in 2 hours was up 30 points. Damned good though. I'll keep 'em around for emergencies. Well, *I* wouldn't even if I weren't watching the carbs because of the ice cream. It bothers my sinus. ARGH. Sheila
Guest guest
Thanks Sheila, Since I live out of Wal-Mart I'll get some. Wash 'em down with Coke (yes!!!). Do I HAVE to have low blood sugar for this? :-) Ken > In a message dated 5/2/02 1:07:14 PM Central Daylight Time, > km07@r... writes: > > > > Can anybody suggest anything that I should keep around for an > > emergency? Guest guest
Thanks, Sharon, I guess that if this happened once it can happen again and no telling if it will stop in the 70's. You've been diabetic for 28 years? Man, you people got guts. Guest guest
Thanks, Joanne, Glucose tablets must get into the blood stream faster than candy or Coke. Anything else you can think of that a type 2 should keep around the house? Ken > a peanut butter sandwich brings mine up. Guest guest
Sheila, I'm trying diet A & W tomorrow. I guess it's asking too much to throw a scoop of vanilla ice cream in it for a float? :-) Ken > In a message dated 5/2/02 7:55:50 PM Central Daylight Time, > km07@r... writes: > > > > Wash 'em down with Coke > > (yes!!!). Guest guest
Sheila, the part in parentheses made me laugh! Just in case anyone was wondering what you meant. Guest guest
Hey, Breyers makes a pretty yummy no-sugar-added vanilla ice cream. Go for it! Peace, Willie <--actually got a little weepy when she realized she could still have milkshakes and floats (the nsa variety, that is!) > >Date: Fri, 03 May 2002 03:01:33 -0000 > >Sheila, >I'm trying diet A & W tomorrow. Guest guest
No No not even diet ice cream sorry to be a party pooper. Your eating too many sweets for being a dabetic you really should limit sweets to maybe once a week ya know Ken or you will wind up with a bad case of Neuropathy and you dont want to know what that feels like.
