Hi Max, Great question. I have diabetes because I was fat. Lot of my weight gain was because of steroids (around 45 lbs in less than 3 months). I believe steroids played a major role in my having diabetes. I am not angry that I had to take steroids. I am not angry because I have diabetes. Diabetes has made me a much healthier person. Remember.....I was 250 lbs overweight before it developed. I know I did not have it previously, because I get very frequent blood tests. I think the docs figured I should have it, so kept testing. Therefore, I only had numbers higher than 90 for no more than 3 months. I have seen all my blood profile print-outs. Then, suddenly I soared into the 300's. I believe it was purely the prednisone that brought on the diabetes. I took 80 mg one day last month and bg's went up to almost 300 again. Prednisone does something to raise blood sugars. I gained 22 lbs between my 4th and 5th blood transfusions....that was about 2 1/2 months of time. That gain was probably from having extra insulin and bg running around. I think the insulin without a home helped me pack the weight on even more. I was also much hungrier than usual. For those 22 pounds, I'd say it was the diabetes making me both hungrier and fatter. It isn't until long term diabetes sets in that weight loss from the disease happens. I never lost weight or had to pee more frequently or had any of the diabetes warning signs. These opinions are all based on books and websites I have read, plus my gut feeling ;-) (wsm311@...) Guest guest
> ><< lack of exercise>> > > Not for me. I have run an organic vegetable farm, done homestead stuff or been travelling for years. PLENTY of exercise! ;-) I might be fat, but was strong and am amazingly un-jiggly ;-) The myasthenia gravis only kicked in after the diabetes diagnosis, because I could no longer take the prednisone to mask it. Now I am wimpy and don't get much exercise....but hope to get meds to make me perky real soon! ;-) (wsm311@...) How can I put this inoffensiveley? You're WRONG! Twenty (20!) pounds in four months is A LOT. That's an average of five pounds a month--60 pounds a year if you were to keep up that rate of weight loss. There aren't many credible sources who would say that much more than a pound a week is desirable, so you're going about as fast as you ought to go. Don't say " not much " . If you GAINED 20 pounds in four months you wouldn't call that " not much " would you? Guest guest
First, I don’t have any idea what I am talking about, but I think people who develop diabetes and are fat were insulin resistant. This is what made them fat, and probably led to diabetes. Don’t ask me to provide data all I know is my opinion is the result of what I have read on low carbing and diabetes since February. Probably doesn’t have a bit of data to back it up. Ila East ieast@...
