Randy brings up a great point: of those chosen for the Olympics in SLC,

Mine says arrive March 1st and wear rubber boots- am I on the clean-up crew?

Just kidding, mine is the same as Randalls (feb 4-25)

You know we might want to start a yahoogroup just for the 50 of us going (and

anyone wishing to lurk) to discuss goofy details like this?? What do you guys

think? I'm sure the whole console isn't thrilled to hear about long johns,

scanners and snow tires but again I could be wrong-

Ditto! Ditto! Ditto........

How many times a does an Olympics come to the US? Besides, this might be

useful information for those who have to work smaller scale special events

in their own areas...

I haven't looked into how to do the Yahoo group or whatever but it sounds

like a good idea if we can allow others here to join if they want to - and

spare those list members who don't want to put up with our traffic. Since

Kev knows the way.....

BTW, I've contacted APCO magazine and got the thumbs up to do an article or

three for them on the impact of the games on the area comm centers and that

type of thing. I may also try to do a running commentary for the folks back

home which might well be posted to the Yahoo group or other.

Not sure how others heard about it, , but I heard about it right here

on this list.

I applied, waited anxiously for 2+ months, and now I've got my ticket and

I'm going!

How easy was that? :)

We have become independently wealthy from our current jobs.

Actually, we pay transportation out and back. And any " extras " we may

wish. They furnish everything else. Some will drive out, some fly, some

take the train.

I wind up using up all this year's vacation (4 weeks) which means I'll have

to earn some comp time for APCO and Navigator, but the way I look at it, it's

kind of a once in a lifetime opportunity. Where else am I going to get the

chance to work behind the scenes at the Olympic Games? It's my chance to do

something outside the box and participate in an important event.

That's what I was really asking...I knew from reading the info on how to

apply that you got a free bed and food (if you ate where they wanted you to

eat) but as a person who uses up her vacation time as often as I can, I

didn't know so many people had that much time on the books. I know I sure

couldn't afford to do it w/o using leave time.

I'm looking forward to seeing how all you warm climate folks like all the

snow and cold you'll experience!

Just remember to pack plenty of skin lotion, limp balm and sun block. It

will be a " dry " cold, UV rays are closer due to the elevation and don't over

do it the first couple of days to acclimate to the higher elevation.

Any and all as far as I'm concerned. I try to collect 'em all. Not all

dispatch centers have their own patches (mine doesn't, for example, we wear

the regular FD patch), but I'd be pleased to see whatever you can bring!
