Guest guest
Dear Carol T., I'll certainly tell you the outcome as soon as we know. Your husband and I may have remarkably similar experiences. They kept hauling my dad off to the ER in an ambulance with his arrhythmias, and I always suspected it was something that could have been remedied, if folks just knew where to look. They drew blood today. I get the Holter monitor Monday. Then Tuesday afternoon, after it is removed, I do a treadmill test at the doctor's office. eanwhile, the hospital will phone to schedule an echocardiogram. By next week we should have the blood test results back. And meanwhile I'll lay off all caffeine and see if that doesn't help a lot. I'll discontinue the beta blockers days ahead, and try to make do by doubling up on the ACE inhibitors. (For those who don't have severe hypertension, if you discontinue your b.p. meds suddenly, there's a " rebound effect, " with your pressure skyrocketing.) Since the beta blockers slow the heart down and cause it to beat less strongly, there's a danger in doing a treadmill test of " running away from your heart, " which can't keep up. I had lost four pounds. My numbers were worrisome ... pulse 56, oxygen concentration only 87%. Susie

Guest guest
Wow Susie, you sure gave my heart a work-out. I'm in my usual behind state of reading messages so of course I had to skip forward hunting for more notes from you. Sure hope wearing the monitor will let them figure out what is going on. Please keep us posted.
Guest guest
Dear , I've been publicly recording everything going on, because I hope it'll be helpful to other diabetics. One insight I can add is that my family seems incredibly reactive to caffeine. I haven't had any arrhythmias since I discontinued it, and my blood pressure is improving. Also, I'm sleeping better. I can't say that discontinuing caffeine would make this much improvement in others, but it's certainly helping me. (I was drinking two quarts a day, but using only one small teabag per quart - yet that was enough to trigger reactions.) I would like to believe that everything is going to be fine. And that could well be the case. But, now that I have insurance, I think it's prudent to have the bloodwork for possible electrolyte depletion as well as having my heart checked out. We live in the country and I often do hard work, we just bought a home gym and mountain bikes. Thanks for caring, Val - and it's nice to hear from you!
