I didn't want to give up, though. All along I thought I was just getting old (I'm only 36). Zina,I can totally relate to that. I have always wanted to have that healthy feeling. I worked out heavily from about 26 years to just until a couple of years ago when I started getting horrible heartburn and the doc said stop. I rode my bike 10 miles a day and 30 on the weekends. I used to alternate it with step aerobics and weight lifting. Seems after each workout I was exhausted. Yes I did build some muscle and I think in the long run I was healthier, but I never felt like I thought I should. For as much exercise as I was doing (for about 20 years I did this kind of thing) I should have been radiant and looked like an athlete. It wasn't over the course of an entire lifetime, but over the course of several years. It really crept up on me, too, but when the gym experience began to be something I loathed....I just gave up. It took everything out of me, and I was getting weaker, not stronger, and I couldn't even stay at the same weight on machines, nor do the same reps, etc. My 3hr/day dance practices dwindled to where I couldn't handle 20min. and for spending 22 years working out faithfully, having an active job (dance teacher), performing, etc... I really should've looked and felt better. But many years ago (10yrs)... I felt SO healthy. I was 30 or 31 and felt 20. Heck, at this point I'd be happy to feel 40 (whatever that feels like). >I didn't.Now that I look back the hypothyroid symptoms are so obvious.1) Always had trouble recovering after surgery bled a lot (probably anemic) > Sounds spooky! I only had surgery once (well, twice if you count the bone being reset in my arm as a small child after a mishap of swinging on a rope from a tree..lol). The surgery I did have took oveer a week of recovery anyway because it was major surgery (life- saving), so it was pretty bad...but that was about 15 or so years ago, too, back when I was probably my healthiest ever. > 2) Worked out but never really felt fit I always felt like a million bucks...until the last few years. It seemed to dwindle over time, though, so i thought it was just normal aging. > 3) Had pimples most of my life and still get some(funny thing is my skin looks great even so) Never had real problems with pimples, but for when I was about 14 or 15.. the usual pimples, and not real bad. My skin problems have always been on the dry side..and that got worse and worse as time went on until it became totally miserable. > 4)Infertility with both kids No infertility (except for the kind I got at the surgeon's hand! lol), but I did have a miscarriage before I got pregnant with my youngest. I don't think that's related to anything, though. > 5)severe menstruation problems Mine's been only around for the last few years, too. I began having PMS about 5-6 years ago where I'd never had it before. Heck, when I was young I never even had cramps to speak of. > 6)always cold (so cold no on could relate)Now after finding this great group. . .My eyes are opened > Now THAT I can relate to. I've never like cold weather and when I moved from Colorado... I vowed to never live there again. And the cold intolerance has gotten to the point where I'm nearly in tears at having to go out in the Winter. I'm in Florida now, but we had a pretty cold Winter this past. Horrible. But I have to keep the apartment between 75-80 or I have to cover up with a flannel shirt. > > Hugs > Sheryl It's definitely " enlightening " hearing about everyone's stories. Looking back over the last few years at the progression of whatever this is and I can definitely see it. Thanks for sharing that, Sheryl! Ya know Ella with the amount of exercise you and I have done we should feel great!. With the right meds, maybe our bodies will be able to keep up with our minds. Funny because even though I had pimples the rest of my body flaked off like crazy. Dry legs and arms. Have always used tons of hand lotion. I too dreamed of summer. I lived in Oregon for the first 30 years of my life. I was miserable all winter. In our house during the winter my family runs around in no sleeve shirts and pants. I have on a sweater with a sweat shirt over the top. I have a blanket on if I am sitting down. Made me always feel out of place.
