Guest guest
I sent the following question to Dr. Cabot and received the following reply. I hope the information is useful for someone else. I have eliminated ALL dairy and already feel better. Jerome > Subject: Gallbladder > Question: I had my gallbladder removed 6 months ago. I am wondering whether you advise any particular diet to maintain a healthy liver, that is different, now that the gallbladder has been removed? I read your book and did the liver cleansing diet before surgery. It was just too late and I had calcified stones that were not going away but by removal. Now, I would like to maintain a healthy diet for liver health. > Thanks, > The function of the gallbladder is to store and concentrate bile. When it is no longer there the liver must work even harder to keep up bile production. The following program is recommended: -- Obtain a copy of the " Healthy Liver and Bowel Book " By Dr Cabot and follow the principles for a Healthy Liver outlined on p 20 -27. This book is essential reading for anyone with liver dysfunction and contains sections on fatty liver, liver function tests and the implication of the results and gall stones. This way of eating must be followed for life. It is not hard. You can use the recipes in the back as a guide and make your own recipes/meals up as long as they stick to those basic principles and also: To improve your liver function you must avoid ALL dairy foods including milk, cheese, cream, butter, ice cream, yoghurt, chocolate etc the fat content of milk is actually quite negligible in terms of weight loss. - dairy foods contain high levels of antibiotics, steroids and artificial growth hormones as this is what the herds are treated with in today's high tech dairies to prevent disease and boost milk production. As with humans where substances go through into breast milk it is the same for cattle - only they neglect to tell you this in the advertisements when they are telling you how great milk is. If you need further info on this please visit www.notmilk.com " There IS compelling evidence, now published in top scientific journals, showing that cows' milk is associated, possibly even causally, with a wide variety of serious human ailments, including various cancers, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and an array of allergy related diseases. And, this food contains no nutrients that cannot be better obtained from other far more nutritious and tasty foods. " - T Colin PhD prominent US Nutritionist Try some different brands and varieties of soy as they vary greatly. The fresh soy products in the dairy cabinet are much lighter and not as strong in taste as the long life products. There are also rice milks and oat milks to try -- Avoid ALL margarines and similar type spreads -- Avoid deep fried and fatty foods. -- Avoid sugary processed foods and drinks -- Limit chicken and turkey that is not free range as this contains artificial growth hormones, antibiotics and steroids that increase the livers workload. -- Avoid artificial sweeteners see www.dorway.com Healthy Sweetener Use Guide Sweeteners to avoid: Aspartame Neotame Sucralose (Splenda) Acesulfame-K (Sunette, Sweet & Safe, Sweet One) Cyclamates Saccharin Sweeteners to Use: Stevia * Barley Malt Evaporated Cane Juice Fruit Juice Rice Syrup Honey Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) * Amasake Sweeteners to use sparingly: Refined Sugar High Fructose Sweeteners Sugar Alcohols (xylitol, sorbitol) Licorice Root Supplements are recommended as follows: -- Livatone Plus 1/2 tsp 2 x day stirred into fresh raw juices or 2 caps 2 x day before meals - this is a strong liver tonic designed for liver disease and dysfunction - its ingredients and their individual action are covered in the book. It stimulates the phase 1 and 2 detoxification pathways and will assist in stimulating the liver to start to burn fat by clearing the saturated detox pathways. -- Selenomune 1 tsp 2 x day stirred into fresh raw juices - selenium has been found to be effective in reducing liver inflammation and is a strong antioxidant. It will assist with thyroid function and therefore the metabolism -- Flaxseed Plus 2 caps and Cod Liver Oil 2 caps with food 2 x day - these are a source of essential fatty acids which is what the liver cell membranes are comprised of - therefore ensuring adequate intakes of good quality cold pressed oils will assist in repair of the liver cell membranes. Salmon, tuna, mackerels are also good sources as is avocado - use this as a spread. -- MSM Plus Vitamin C 1/2 tsp 2 x day in a little water - this is organic sulphur and is very beneficial for the liver as it assists detoxification pathways. -- Natural Vitamin E 500iu daily - will protect the liver cell membranes from further oxidative damage. Start slow with the supplements start with only a 1/4 of the dose and build up to the full dose recommended, over 2-3 weeks. The fresh raw vegetable juices are vitally important. It is good to use both whole fruits and vegetables in the diet as well as the juices as the juices provide an easily absorbable form of nutraceuticals that are very beneficial for the liver. Juices made freshly from raw fruits and or vegetables have unique healing & rejuvenating properties. Dr Cabot has seen them work many miracles in people with the following problems – Arthritis Cellulite Inflammatory bowel disease Liver diseases Fatty liver Chronic fatigue syndrome Immune dysfunction Skin problems Recurrent urinary tract infections For those who feel they need an extra boost there is nothing better than having a raw juice everyday. It will brighten up the day by providing extra energy & endurance. Juices are unique because they allow the gut to receive very concentrated amounts of phyto-nutrients that could not be obtained by eating a normal amount of raw vegetables & fruits. Juices are high in --- Vitamin C, bioflavonoids, carotenoids, living plant enzymes to aid digestion & vitamin K in green leafy vegetables Absorption of vital nutrients & active ingredients is superior from powders, as compared to compressed tablets which often pass through the gut without being dissolved or absorbed Here are some rejuvenating juice recipes Carrot, fresh ginger & apple Carrot, celery, parsley, mint, tomato, apple Beetroot, apple, pear, ginger, parsley Orange, lemon (whole), carrot, fresh ginger, parsley Here is a chlorophyll hit – for super energy 2 carrots, tops removed 3 beetroot tops 1 cup parsley tops, chopped 3 spinach leaves 1 small apple seeded Pass all through the juicer & serve with crushed ice Here is a liver purifier 2 large spinach leaves 3 broccoli flowerets 1 cloves garlic 1 green pepper 1 cup parsley tops, chopped 1 red apple, seeded Pass all through a juicer.
