Guest guest
Hi Liz! I'm glad you were able to find a facility you're happy using! I was apprehensive about Hanger at first, but we met with 3 different facilities and it was an easy decision to go with Hanger. My son was scanned on Tuesday. We, too, were thrilled with the process. His helmet will be ready for his first fitting on Monday. So far, all contact I've had with them has been wonderful. I'm looking forward to getting the process underway. I hope your daughter gets good correction, quickly! Mom to Nate (6 months) Maine > I noticed someone had posted about Hanger, it's just my opinion but > they are awesome. Guest guest
Hi Liz, Thank you for posting about the Hanger scanning. It really does sound fascinating. Did you get a printout of the scan? I would like to hear more about the Hanger helmets. Hanger provides their own band, the Hanger Cranial Band, and sometimes offers the Starband. Do you know if Paige is getting the Hanger Cranial Band? What sort of training does Hanger provide their own orthos in cranial banding? I think they get some specialized training, but I don't know for sure, and would really like to. So are you going with Hanger for sure? When will Paige go for her initial fitting? Take care, Christie (Mom to repo'd Remy) > I noticed someone had posted about Hanger, it's just my opinion but > they are awesome. Guest guest
We are waiting for our insurance to approve which shouldn't be a problem. The Ortho that scanned Paige was a CNP (certified nurse practitioner) which is one step down from an MD. She is probably going to get the Hanger band which oddly enough is clear instead of white. But he said that they can infuse color into the plastic if we want. We expect her to go in for her initial fitting next week sometime. I did notice that there was some " animosity " between Hanger and Cranial Tech. When I brought up the casting procedure with CTI they talked about how " outdated " CTI was and how some insurance companies will no longer approve requests issued by CTI. In fact my insurance asked for a 2nd opinion over Cranial Tech and sent us to Hanger. Just so no one gets mad..I had a great experience with Cranial Tech and would have loved to get Paige banded there but my insurance had a problem with them. I'm new to this even though I work in the healthcare industry so I have no idea what that is all about. I didn't ask about getting a printout but that would be neat to have. Guest guest
Liz, I might have outdated info, but I think the Hanger Cranial Band closely resembles the Starband in design and thickness, and has a base color of white. There is a clear helmet by Orthomerica, which your ortho could also opt to order and use... it is the Starlight Cap and the Starlight Bi-valve www.orthomerica.com . There are pictures of the Starlight in the FILES/HELMET AND BAND BRAND PHOTOS folder as well. However, I do not know if the Starlights can be color injected. Please let me know if there is a new color option with the Hanger Cranial Band, or if there is a new helmet over there at Hanger! Technology just keeps marching on! Cranial Tech has recently developed and published about a new 3D scanning system which has yet to be rolled out to all of their facilities. However, the vast majority of helmet/band facilities still use the casting method. Your post got me thinking about insurance coverage... you know, if insurance companies start to require a trial of aggressive repositioning before covering helmets or bands, I wish they'd pick up a portion of the tab for some repo supplies! Guest guest
Hi Kim! I'm a little late as I don't get to the board very often lately, but I just wanted to let you know that my son is in a Hanger band right now and doing GREAT! He was exactly 7 months old when he got it and we saw very visible improvement the first week. Right now, he only has one area that still shows any flatness, but it's not something the average person would notice. Nate has the Hanger Cranial Band and he's actually under the new protocol called the " Boston Band " developed by Dr. at Children's Hospital in Boston. I'd be happy to answer any questions about Hanger, the band and the scanning process. The scanner, by the way, is great! Last week, we scanned Nate again to check his progress and make some very detailed adjustments to the helmet. It was great to have the 3-D image that we could twist all around, and hold still! Feel free to email if you have questions. Mom to Nate (8 months) Hanger Cranial Band (5-14-04) > YIPEEEEEEE I made an appointment with Hanger for this friday > already!
